It’s that time of the year again, and Taskmaster has announced its cast for the upcoming season. With the 21st main edition of the Channel 4 series set to come later this year, who are the next five contestants?
While Greg Davies and Alex Horne will return to their respective chairs, they will have a new quintet of stars to accompany them throughout the course of the season, with one coming out on top and claiming a prize (of sorts).
For the 21st season, the cast is Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page, acclaimed satirist Armando Iannucci, The Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett, Hollywood star Kumail Nanjiani and comedian Amy Gledhill.
“Each of these competitors will step forward with a healthy mix of respect, fear and a keen desire to lay claim to Greg’s golden head, struck in what is potentially 24-carat gold, and become the next Taskmaster Champion,” reads the logline.
Horne, who also created the series, had previously teased that an “exotic” figure would be taking part in the season in a guest capacity, though it still remains to be seen who or what that could mean.

“There are two things that are new. [Firstly] we’re filming somewhere as well as the house – somewhere that’s pretty mad,” he teased. “And we have a special guest [in] this [season] from somewhere exotic who you’ll recognise. That’s all I can say.”
There is currently no release date for the 21 season, though there does tend to be a slot in March for the Channel 4 series, so it might not be too long before we get our fill of peculiar tasks and challenges!

The announcement comes hot off the heels of the sixth edition of New Year Treat, which saw Big Zuu, Jill Scott, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Sam Ryder and Susie Dent all taking part in an abbreviated form of the series across two episodes.
Before that, there was the fourth iteration of Champion of Champions, with Mathew Baynton coming out on top against Maisie Adam, Andy Zaltzman, John Robins and Sam Campbell.
Taskmaster will return with season 21 soon, airing and streaming on Channel 4.
