A man who was assaulted in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon, has died in hospital.
The incident happened at around 1am on Barrack Street in the town.
The man, aged in his 30s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin with critical injuries but has since died.
A man aged in his 40s who was arrested in connection with the investigation has been charged.
He is due to appear before Roscommon District Court this morning.
Gardaí have said that investigations are ongoing.
