The Charities Regulator contacted the organisation behind Clonskeagh mosque almost 10 years ago after concerns were raised about “alleged fraud” in the foundation’s charitable activities, according to documents released to Gript under the FOI Act.
In a November 2017 letter to the Al Maktoum Foundation Limited, the regulator said that it had received a concern regarding the Islamic charity relating to a “lack of independence of charity trustees, poor governance and alleged fraud,” and that it was seeking assurances from the foundation that the trustees were fulfilling their requirements in compliance with the Charities Act 2009.
