A former geography teacher from Plymouth has been found guilty of a slew of sickening sex acts with two pupils, including one incident that took place inside a school cupboard.
Anthony Redmond, of Fort Austin Avenue, appeared before Plymouth Crown Court this week after being accused of engaging in sexual activity with two teenagers in the 2000s when he worked as a teacher in a local school.
Investigators uncovered the historic offences took place at his home, on school property, at a hotel and at another location, as well as inside a cupboard on the school grounds, reports Plymouth Live.
The court heard how the disgraced former teacher took the virginity of both his victims, with one bravely telling the jury how she was left feeling “used and worthless” as a result of Redmond’s acts.
The 54-year-old denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included five counts of abuse of a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 18, two counts of abuse of a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with another girl and a further single count of indecency with a child.
However, the jury at Plymouth Crown Court found him guilty by unanimous verdict of all the offences.
Redmond’s legal advocate, Ali Rafiti requested a pre-sentence report was carried out, noting that his client was of previous good character.
Judge Robert Linford agreed and granted Redmond bail, telling him he would be sentenced on February 10.
Judge Linford thanked the jury for their attention and diligence, noting that they had begun sitting on the trial in December and had returned after the Christmas and New Year break to continue listening to evidence. He said that if they were called upon to be on a jury in the next 10 years they could be excused if they did so wish.
