Over the last four weeks, Marvel Entertainment has been releasing a series of teaser trailers to build early anticipation for its upcoming film, “Avengers: Doomsday,” which premieres in December. On Tuesday, Marvel released its fourth trailer — which, according to the film’s directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, is not actually a trailer or a teaser.
The fourth trailer features the Fantastic Four traveling to Wakanda and highlights the return of Shuri (Letitia Wright) as the Black Panther, after the mantle was passed to her following the death of actor Chadwick Boseman.
Shuri says, “I’ve lost everyone that matters to me. A king has his duties, to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.”
Not all of the members of the Fantastic Four, the villain-fighting team from an alternate 1960s world — including Franklin Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) — appear in the trailer, though all are confirmed to be in “Doomsday.” The trailer does show a meeting between Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and King M’Baku (Winston Duke), marking the first time the Fantastic Four have met a character from the MCU since their debut last summer in “Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
Fans also get a look at Mabel Cadena as the Atlantean-human Princess Namora and Tenoch Huerta as Namor of the underwater kingdom of Talokan, who first appeared in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Along with posting the trailer on Instagram, the Russo brothers wrote:
“What you’ve been watching for the last four weeks… are not teasers. Or trailers,” the pair wrote. They are stories They are clues… Pay attention.”
Previous trailers revealed the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, as well as appearances from the X-Men.
Marvel confirmed 27 actors in the ensemble cast in early announcements, but according to Forbes, as many as 33 more could make an appearance, bringing the total to 55 cast members.
Fan reactions
Fan reactions were largely positive following the fourth trailer, although some criticized the signature gray aesthetic the Russo brothers often use in their films, writing, “Dread it, run from it, the grey sludge arrives all the same.”

I love that Marvel started an actual Doomsday clock livestream, I’m about to sit through this whole thing just to see if anything happens along the way pic.twitter.com/VrDlixEvTU
