Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested and booked into jail in Los Angeles on Monday after an encounter in which police said he assaulted the driver of a ride-share vehicle and made “criminal threats” toward that person.
Sutherland, best known for playing Jack Bauer in the television drama 24, was released from custody after posting a $50,000 (€43,000) bond, according to county jail records available online. He has a court date scheduled for February 2nd, the records say.
A representative for Sutherland did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said officers had responded to a call around 12.15am on Monday about an assault involving a ride-share driver near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in the Hollywood area.
The investigation determined that Sutherland had entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats toward the driver, the police statement says. Officers arrested Sutherland at the scene. Police said the driver had not sustained any injuries requiring medical treatment. – This article originally appeared in The New York Times.
