The Irish Dental Association says more funding, along with a new contract for dentists, needs to be negotiated for medical card patients.
The group says less than one in four dentists are signed up to the scheme, and it has also called for a complete overhaul.
Treatment fees for dentists were last increased in 2022, and the association says its ready to talk to the HSE about improvements and changes that are needed.
The Joint Committee on Health met this morning to discuss dental services in the healthcare system.
