Raising eyebrows has never been unfamiliar territory for Victoria Beckham.
Now, amid renewed claims from her son Brooklyn Beckham about her actions in private, a long-forgotten story has resurfaced, offering a very different yet still startling snapshot of the ex-Spice Girl.
The fashion mogul has been placed firmly in the spotlight this week after Brooklyn posted a dramatic message on Instagram. On Monday, the 26-year-old – the firstborn of Victoria and Sir David Beckham – launched a blistering public attack on his parents.
He said he had been “controlled” by them and accused them of trying to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. However, the harshest accusations were levelled specifically at his mother.
The aspiring chef alleged that she “cancelled” Nicola’s wedding dress shortly before the ceremony. He further claimed that she labelled him “evil” and “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola, before behaving “very inappropriately” on the dance floor.
Although these allegations have not been verified, they have triggered fresh examination of Victoria’s behaviour at family events. Stories about her conduct have emerged before, surprising those who heard them.
One such incident dates back to 2007, soon after Sir David made his headline-grabbing move to LA Galaxy. The Beckhams threw a birthday party for one of their sons, inviting his new team-mates and their families. Years later, Carlos Pavon Jr – whose father Carlos Pavon played for Galaxy – recounted an unexpected moment involving Victoria that stood out to him as a child.

“I was playing with [Beckham’s] son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid’s mum comes in, David’s wife, Victoria,” he said during an appearance on the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast.
“She started jumping with us and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this with Victoria Beckham,’ so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, ‘Wow, that just happened.’ It was really funny.”
According to reports, tensions inside the Beckham family have been bubbling beneath the surface for years. Brooklyn and Nicola began dating in 2019, announced their engagement in 2020 and married two years later. While relations were initially described as positive, problems reportedly emerged in the months leading up to the wedding.
A significant source of conflict is thought to involve the dispute over Nicola’s wedding dress. She was originally expected to wear a design created by Victoria’s fashion brand, but instead walked down the aisle in a custom Valentino gown.
Brooklyn has claimed the decision was forced. He alleges that Victoria “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour… forcing her to urgently find a new dress.” He has also said that family members told him the night before the wedding that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.”
He further alleged that Victoria called him “evil” during wedding preparations because he chose to seat his and Nicola’s grandmothers at the top table instead of giving priority to his parents.
Talk of a family rift intensified, although several joint appearances helped dampen speculation for a time. That changed in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola skipped David’s 50th birthday celebrations. Not long after, David and Victoria did not attend the couple’s vow renewal ceremony, fuelling suggestions of a serious breakdown in relations.

In December last year, it was reported that Brooklyn had blocked both his parents and siblings on social media. Weeks later, he was said to have issued a legal letter instructing that all future contact be handled through his lawyers.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” Brooklyn said on Monday. “Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.
“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
He also said: “My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped… My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”
He ended by saying: “My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”
Sir David responded publicly on Tuesday, breaking his silence on the controversy. The former Manchester United and England star said his children had “made mistakes” on social media, but stressed that they are “allowed” to make them as part of learning.
“What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons,” he told CNBC. “I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.
“And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
