Liverpool and Inter Milan are in direct talks over a deal for Curtis Jones to move to the Serie A club, according to reports.

The Reds have had a mixed campaign and have struggled in the defence of their Premier League crown, currently sitting sixth in the table, while they have qualified for the Champions League last 16 after finishing third in the league phase.

But with the transfer window on the verge of closing, they have now been approached about a deal that could see a key midfielder depart before Monday’s deadline in a shock move.

Liverpool and Inter in Talks for Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones

Jones, who has been described as a ‘complete midfielder’ by Arne Slot, has established himself as a regular in the midfield in recent weeks at Anfield, but he is out of contract in the summer of 2027.

There is currently no sign of an extension being agreed or signed, and with Inter Milan allowing Davide Frattesi to depart on loan for Nottingham Forest, they have now identified the England international as a perfect replacement.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have opened talks over a potential loan deal with an option to buy, and talks continue as we head into the final 72 hours of the window.

In a further update, Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Jones has already said yes to a move to the San Siro, and talks continue to find an agreement over a loan until the end of the season, with a buy option worth €40m (£34.6m).

Liverpool Crazy to Let Jones Leave

Curtis Jones vs Inter

Jones has developed into one of the best midfielders at Anfield, and in a season where they have had a number of players serially underperforming, he has regularly stood up to be counted.

His technical ability, and the fact that he has come through the academy, should, in theory, make him untouchable in the squad, especially in the middle of such a tough campaign. Yet somehow, the club are considering letting him go.

It would be crazy for Jones to move on at this stage of the window with all things considered, but with the player clearly open to the move, this is one to keep a close eye on in the coming days.
