THE Limerick senior hurling side to face Waterford in their opening Allianz Hurling League game of the season on Sunday has been named.

Limerick, who had a bye in the opening weekend of fixtures, make their first appeearance in Division 1A for 2026 at Azzurri Walsh Park in Waterford, Sunday, 2pm. The game will be live on the TG4 App and there will be a deferred showing of the game on TG4 at 5.30pm on Sunday.

This will be the second time the sides have met within a short number of weeks as the Shannonsiders emerged victorious when the Munster rivals faced off in the Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling League final at Mallow earlier in January.

The Limerick side for Sunday’s game sees Nickie Quaid named in goals with the experienced Sean Finn, Barry Nash, Diarmuid Byrnes and William O’Donoghue included in defence. 

There is also a start in the full-back line for talented young Monaleen player Matthew Fitzgerald.

Adam English and Darragh O’Donovan will line out at midfield, while the forward unit includes the likes of captain Cian Lynch, Tom Morrissey, Gearoid Hegarty and Shane O’Brien.

Waterford suffered defeat away to Cork in their opening fixture in the league’s seven-team Division 1A last weekend.
