Viewers hit out at the ITV show just moments in as Mole Dommett’s identity was revealed

The Masked Singer was hit with complaints just minutes into Saturday night’s show (January 31) as viewers fumed over ‘cheating’. The hit singing show returned to ITV tonight with viewers and judges in with another chance at guessing which famous faces could be hiding behind the masks.
The show sees celebrities dress up in fun costumes whilst performing songs in a bid to hide their identities. Ahead of their performances, clues are often given to help steer fans of the show, and the panel, in the right direction.
Saturday’s show kicked off differently with an unmasking right at the start of the programme. Judges Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall took to their seats whilst host Joel Dommett revealed that the identity of Mole Dommett would be revealed.

Last weekend, Joel brought ‘double agent’ Mole out onto the stage after the character was seen giving extra clues throughout each of the character’s VT’s. But viewers didn’t realise that they wouldn’t have long to wait to find out Mole’s identity.
In a move that surprised viewers, Joel revealed that Mole would be unmasked immediately at the start of the episode. Mole turned out to be singer Olly Murs, who shot to fame on The X Factor in 2009, with his hint being a newspaper which was a nod to his song Wrapped Up.
Olly then went to join the judges on the panel, but The Masked Singer fans were already left fuming at the lack of clues ahead of his unmasking – making it impossible to guess his identity.

Taking to X, one viewer @arealplacenot wrote: “FUMING! Mole FINALLY unmasked tonight but that’s CHEATIN, zero clues made sense,” as another fan @michellepryde agreed: “NAH sorry that is absolutely cheating! How are we supposed to guess who the mole was if there was ZERO clues? Never in a million years would anyone have guessed Olly Murs.”
@ShakyWoon also complained: “I thought Mole Dommett is going to be unmasked towards the end of the episode!.” Over on Reddit, @Sloth_Bubbles wrote: “omg Mole was a waste of time,” as @JDCavallo agreed: “They could have done so much more with Mole than they have. We’ve heard basically nothing from him.”
