Rowing Ireland chief executive Michelle Carpenter was not in attendance at the body’s high-profile awards night — three days after she was too ill to attend an Oireachtas hearing into athlete welfare.

The rowing body staged their annual awards gala at the Fota Island Resort in Cork on Saturday night with the shortlist including world and Olympic medallists Fintan McCarthy, Jake McCarthy, Philip Doyle, Fiona Murtagh and Margaret Cremen.
