People encouraged to familiarise themselves with urgent care options in Kerry

HSE South West is encouraging people to familiarise themselves with urgent care options available in the county.

Emergency Departments typically see increased activity over bank holiday weekends, with the most seriously ill and injured prioritised.

This results in increased waiting times for less-urgent cases.

Injury units can treat more minor ailments, and out-of-hours GP clinics like South Doc will also be opened.

People are advised to stock their medical cabinets to help with colds and sore throats, and pharmacists can give advise on minor ailments.

Julie O’Neill, Integrated Healthcare Area Manager for Kerry, has assured that genuine medical emergencies will be dealt with with the greatest care, however, there will be waits for those attending the UHK Emergency Department with minor illness or injury.

Genuine medical emergencies are encouraged to attend the Emergency Department or call 112 or 999.
