NotebookLM has always been one of those tools that feels almost too useful for how little attention it gets. Built as a research assistant, it’s popular with students, journalists, and anyone who needs to digest large amounts of information quickly. Until now, however, one of its most valuable features has been missing from Android.
That’s finally changing.
Video Overviews arrive on Android
According to reporting from 9to5Google, NotebookLM’s Video Overviews feature is now rolling out to Android devices. Previously limited to desktop, Video Overviews automatically turn selected notebook content into short, easy-to-follow videos—ideal for breaking down complex topics or reviewing material visually.
On Android, the feature can be accessed through the Studio section of the app. Once there, users can generate video summaries directly from their saved sources, making mobile study and research far more practical than before.
More control over visuals and layouts
Alongside Video Overviews, the update introduces new customization options for infographics. Users can now choose between:
- Landscape layouts
- Horizontal formats
- Square designs
These options make it easier to reuse NotebookLM-generated visuals in presentations, documents, or social posts. Slide deck customization has also been spotted in development, though it hasn’t rolled out yet.
While the update is live, availability may vary by device and region. Since this is a broad rollout, it should reach most Android users soon.
Why this update matters
NotebookLM is positioned by Google as a conversational research assistant, not just another AI chatbot. The Android upgrade brings it closer to that vision by letting users:
- Add their own sources
- Ask follow-up questions naturally
- Generate tables, summaries, and now videos—on the go
Many users have also found success pairing NotebookLM with YouTube transcripts or long-form documents, using it to extract key insights or structure large datasets quickly.
Worth a second look
Even if NotebookLM doesn’t sound like something you’d normally use, this update makes it far more compelling on mobile. With Video Overviews now available on Android, it’s easier than ever to turn dense information into something fast, visual, and digestible—right from your phone.
If you’ve written it off before, this might be the update that changes your mind.
