LIttle Kyran was last seen alive in 2022.

A suspect who was questioned by Gardai over the disappearance and murder of little Kyran Durnin has been back in Ireland again.

The woman was staying with a relative at a house in Drogheda over the Christmas period for a number of weeks.

Neighbours reported seeing her out and about around the town without a care in the world.

The suspect had been living with a new partner in the East Anglia area of England for over a year and then returned back to the UK about three weeks ago.

She had previously been arrested and questioned over missing Kyran but denied any involvement or knowledge of how the youngster vanished.

It is understood that she pointed the finger of blame at another individual who has since died.

However, that man’s family is defending his innocence and supporting a previous statement of denial that he gave to detectives before he took his own life.

He was regarded as a very good father to his own children by local people who lived beside him and anyone who knew him.

Gardai were aware that the suspect was back in Ireland but said they had no reason to bring her back in for questioning at this stage.

Kyran was last seen alive in Co Louth when he was six years old in the summer of 2022. He had lived with his mother Dayla Durnin at houses in both Drogheda and Dundalk.

But he wasn’t formally reported missing until August 30, 2024 when his grandmother informed Gardai both he and his mother had gone missing from her house in Drogheda.

His mother was located six weeks later but the child has never been found. Gardai are convinced he had been murdered.

Three different houses have been searched in Drogheda and Dundalk but so far no body has been found.

Gardai confirmed over the weekend that the criminal investigation into Kyran’s disappearance and murder is continuing and that he would be nine years old if he were alive today.

They are again appealing to the public for any information they might have in relation to the child to contact the incident room in Drogheda Garda Station.

In a statement, they said: “The last known images of Kyran were taken in June, 2022 when Kyran was 6 years old. Despite extensive and ongoing enquiries carried out by Gardai to date, An Garda Siochana have been unable to locate Kyran or determine what has happened to Kyran.

“Two persons, a woman and a man, have to date been arrested on suspicion of murder. Three domestic residences and adjoining lands have also been searched which included excavation works as well as a full forensic examination of each scene.

“The Gardai are continuing to liaise with Tusla in respect of this investigation”.

The Gardai said any information about the case no matter how insignificant it may seem would be welcomed by the investigation team.

Any information will be treated in the strictest of confidence. If you can help the Gardai on this matter please call Drogheda Garda Station on 041-9874200. Any information will be treated in confidence.

Detectives believe there is a conspiracy of silence by a number of people to stop them getting to the truth and finding the child’s remains.
