‘It was inspiring to see how they have placed creativity at the heart of the community and made art widely accessible,’ Catherine wrote on Instagram following the visit. ‘The Beauty of The Earth exhibition was a powerful reminder of the connection between nature, creativity and craft.’ The message was signed with a C, indicating that it was written by Catherine herself.
The team behind the gallery said they were ‘thrilled’ to welcome the Princess of Wales to the exhibition, adding that it ‘celebrates the enduring legacy of the Morris family, highlighting the artistic contributions of May and Jane Morris alongside William Morris. We are proud to see this important exhibition recognised in this way’.

The Princess of Wales has had a busy start to the year, carrying out solo engagements and joint engagements alongside her husband, Prince William. The couple made a whirlwind visit to Stirling and Falkirk to shine a light on local creativity and craftsmanship, before the Princess of Wales carried out engagements in the North East of England that spotlighted organisations focused on community outreach and improving mental health. Kate Middleton has also hosted a reception at Windsor Castle for the England Women’s Rugby Team following their victory in the World Cup last year. The couple also carried out a surprise engagement to Charing Cross Hospital to thank NHS staff who had worked over Christmas.
The Princess of Wales has made our relationship with the natural world one of the focuses of her royal work. Last month, Catherine released the final iteration of her ‘Mother Nature’ videos on 9 January, posting a video of her walking through a frosty landscape while she discusses Winter as a time to ‘come to peace with our tears’. In an Instagram caption posted alongside the video, the Princess wrote: ‘The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal. But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing. There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world.’
