The brother of a man who went missing following a tragic kayaking accident off West Donegal is to run the Dublin Marathon in his honour.

Accountant Paul Buchanan was reported missing on the evening of October 3rd, 2024.

However, despite the recovery of his orange kayak during a large-scale search, Mr Buchanan, who was in his 50s, has never been found.

Paul, who lived with his family in Ramelton but was originally from Newtowncunningham, had been kayaking off Magheragallon Pier in Gaoth Dobhair.

Now Paul’s brother Shaun is to run the famous 26.2 mile Dublin marathon to raise funds for the RNLI in honour of Paul.

Shaun plans to run through the pain barrier to help raise funds for the RNLI, just one of the agencies which searched tirelessly for Paul when he went missing.

To date, The Paul Buchanan Forever by the Sea Tribute Fund has raised more than €1,500.
