It was there in black and white on this very page under the heading: ‘Gavin has necessary skills for Áras an Uachtaráin bid.’
When? Last week? A fortnight ago? No. It was on December 4 last, when the Presidential election seemed so far away that even the political parties had it down their priority list. A predictable array of contenders were being mentioned occasionally, so by way of an interesting alternative I floated Jim Gavin’s name.
