A recent Caoimhín Kelleher interview was remarkable for containing nothing of interest

Caoimhín Kelleher heard it last season, and the season before. He heard the praise that he was the best No 2 goalkeeper in the Premier League — the one who meant Liverpool did not fret when Alisson Becker was unavailable, but who would always stay behind the world’s best in the pecking order.

“Of course you hear that kind of stuff,” Kelleher says. “I think it’s a nice compliment obviously, up to a point. I played a lot last season and a lot the season before as well so I think, for me, the natural progression — and one I’ve obviously been looking at for a number of years — is to be a No 1. It’s a good compliment, but now I want to be that No 1 and show people that I’m quite a good No1 as well.”
