13:50 Newmarket – Ancient Egypt (each-way)
ITV Racing Saturday features actions from Newmarket and Haydock, starting with with the Group 2 Royal Lodge for juvenile colts over a mile. Lots of improvers but the one who really interests me as an each-way selection is the Charlie Johnston runner ANCIENT EGYPT. David Egan had a twinkle in his eye when I spoke to him at Lingfied this week about the unbeaten son of Frankel who cost 1,100,000gns once upon a time. He has won well at both Goodwood and Beverley and looks a strong stayer.
14:05 Haydock – Germanic (each-way)
ITV go to Haydock for this handicap over 5f. GERMANIC will be a huge price here but he’s well handicapped and if wind surgery has helped him he could be bang in the mix. The ex-William Haggas runner is now with Julie Camacho and started off this term for her in good shape with his first two runs including a fine second at Newcastle off 94. He’s down to 93 now after some bad efforts but if that’s just down to breathing he might be worth a chance each-way. Ryan Sexton is on top.
14:25 Newmarket – Fitzella (each-way)
Now the Group 1 Cheveley Park for juvenile fillies over 6f. FITZELLA might be the each-way value here for Hugo Palmer and Oisin Murphy. The exciting filly just got stretched when going 7f in France last time, chasing home a Fabre runner in the Prix du Calvados. Prior to that she had hacked up in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes and was fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot. She has a cracking each-way chance.

14:40 Haydock – Woven
Here’s a handicap over 6f. WOVEN is up 3lb for a belting second to Winged Messenger in the Ayr Bronze Cup and it won’t stop him if he’s in the same form here. Ground and trip are ideal – he loves a little cut – and he started the season off 87 and was up to 89 last term so a new mark of 85 won’t stop him. It’s just he’s not always consistent. Michael Dods trains with Sam James doing the steering.
15:00 Newmarket – Coppull (each-way)
The Group 1 Middle Park for juvenile colts over 6f. COPPULL was not at his best in France last time when he didn’t see out the 6f, but he had looked good over the trip at Goodwood before that flop and was a fine third to Gstaad in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. Both of those efforts give him an each-way chance. Maybe he was in front too far out at Deauville so could be held on later here. Rossa Ryan rides for Clive Cox.
15:15 Haydock – La Trinidad (each-way)
A handicap over a mile. First Ambition could hack up here but lacks experience. I’m happy to chance LA TRINIDAD each-way at long odds. He goes with juice in the ground and a mark of 93 is workable for all he’s not thrown in. Last time he was a very decent fifth at Ascot to Shout in a big-field handicap and he’s capable of mixing it with these down 1lb. Rowan Scott rides for Roger Fell.
For most the big betting race of the day in the Cambridgeshire Handicap over 1m1f. There’s nothing wrong with backing two in a race like this on different parts of the track and my duo against the field are TREBLE TEE and MISTER WINSTON.
They are both talented three-year-olds with the former running for the Crisfords and 4lb well in. The latter was fourth behind Treble Tee at Goodwood when last seen. He travelled almost too well that day and if delivered later here by Nicola Currie, he’s a very interesting runner.
It would be huge for Currie who deserves a break. Treble Tee went on from what looked a slightly unlucky defeat at Goodwood to hack up at Doncaster. He’s improved since being gelded and having wind surgery which gives Kieran Shoemark a big chance.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
