THE BRUREE Rockhill Film Awards had their own plot twist with Bruree native Roisín Cussen taking home the Oskar for Best Female Actor less than a fortnight after bringing home her newborn baby, Seán.

The awards, launched to raise money for the community’s sports field, involved locals starring in excerpts of popular movies and TV shows.

Roisín was immediately on board, and found herself getting cast as Lizzie Shelby from Peaky Blinders.

From the information evening, to the auditions, to filming itself, Roisín said there was “a great kind of excitement and buzz” throughout the process.

Despite having no acting experience – and being in her third trimester while filming – Roisín described the experience as “so positive,” adding that it was an “amazing” way for the community to come together.

With her due date being so close to the night of the screening, Roisín had been unsure she’d make the big night, but was “delighted” that, in the end, she was able to.
