Hospitals that are “under-performing”, and seen as failing to deliver the benefits of having consultants who signed up to new €300,000 a year contracts, have been written to by Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill.

The letters “of concern” were sent to hospitals in Dublin, the west and the north-west after the minister said they were not reaching their potential. Ms Carroll MacNeill said she would be contacting hospitals in Cork and Kerry soon.
