PA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom0 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Fianna F\u00e1il Senator Alison Comyn has called for renewed support to breathe fresh life into Drogheda\u2019s historic Saturday market at Bolton Square, which has been a town tradition since the 1880s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Following a recent visit at the invitation of local traders, Senator Comyn said the once-bustling weekly market could once again become a vibrant hub of community life with just a few small but effective changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cI remember this market from when I was growing up \u2013 it was absolutely packed every Saturday morning and a real cornerstone of community life in Drogheda. Times have changed, but the market still has huge potential. Local producers are doing their best, and with a bit of help, we can bring it back to life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">In her correspondence to Louth County Council Chief Executive David Conway, Senator Comyn proposed a number of improvements, including: Preventing overnight car parking in designated trading spaces; Better signage around the town to highlight market hours; A placemaker sign to recognise the market\u2019s heritage; Incentives to attract new stallholders, particularly food and coffee trucks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">She welcomed Mr Conway\u2019s positive response, confirming that he intends to visit the market in the coming weeks and is open to exploring the use of nearby areas as additional markets or event spaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cI\u2019m really encouraged by the Council\u2019s response. With just a bit of vision and support, Drogheda\u2019s market could be a local gem once again \u2013 supporting small traders, creating footfall in the town centre, and celebrating our town\u2019s heritage,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Senator Comyn also stressed her commitment to protecting Drogheda\u2019s cultural assets:<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cMarkets like this aren\u2019t just about commerce \u2013 they\u2019re about connection, community, and local pride.
