S\u00e9amus ‘Banty’ \u00adMcEnaney and 14 of his family members have been paid more than \u20ac231million for housing asylum seekers and Ukrainian refugees, new figures show.<\/p>\n
The former Monaghan GAA<\/a> manager is one of the highest earners from the direct provision system under the Department of Justice and has been for a number of years.<\/p>\n The Department of Justice and the Department of Children payments data was published by Extra.ie<\/a> on Saturday and shows a company that previously oversaw showjumping events in Cork<\/a>, named Millstreet Equestrian Services, has been paid \u20ac104 million to provide temporary accommodation for refugees.<\/p>\n A number of different companies in which McEnaney and members of his families are involved were paid significant amounts between 2012 and 2025.<\/p>\n Oakgate Limited, established in April 2022 with Mr McEnaney’s sisters Bernadette Walsh and Margaret McCarville as directors, has received a total of \u20ac16.6million.<\/p>\n Margaret McCarville is also the sole shareholder of JMA Ventures Limited, which has been granted \u20ac35.6million.<\/p>\n Corduff JG Enterprises Limited, where Mr McEnaney’s son Gavin is the only director and shareholder, has received \u20ac14.8 million.<\/p>\n Copperwhistle Limited, directed by Frank McEnaney, S\u00e9amus’s brother, along with Frank’s wife Mary and his son Cahal, has been granted \u20ac1.6million.<\/p>\n Extra.ie report that S\u00e9amus McEnaney did not wish to comment on the figures when they approached him for comment.<\/p>\n McEnaney has had two spells as manager (2004-2010 and 2019-2022) of his native Monaghan<\/a>, leading them to the National Football League Division 2 title in 2005 and getting them to the final of the Ulster championship<\/a> in 2007 for the first time in 19 years.<\/p>\n During his second spell charge, they also reached the provincial decider in 2021, having won Ulster titles under Malachy O’Rourke in both 2013 and 2015.<\/p>\n McEnaney stepped down as Monaghan manager in June 2022 following the county’s All-Ireland qualifier loss to Mayo<\/a>.<\/p>\n He said in a statement at the time: “The Monaghan players are a very special bunch of men who have been fantastic ambassadors for the people of Monaghan in the past and during my term as manager.<\/p>\n “I have no doubt that they will continue to represent this great county with pride and distinction into the future.”<\/p>\n McEnaney also managed Meath<\/a> from 2010 to 2012 and Wexford<\/a> from 2016 to 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"He is one of the highest earners from the direct provision system under the Department of JusticeS\u00e9amus McEnaney…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":102998,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[73],"tags":[64892,79,18,5286,19,17,35046,64890,56413,64891],"class_list":{"0":"post-102997","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-business","8":"tag-all-ireland-football-championship","9":"tag-business","10":"tag-eire","11":"tag-gaa","12":"tag-ie","13":"tag-ireland","14":"tag-monaghan","15":"tag-monaghan-gaa","16":"tag-refugees","17":"tag-ulster-senior-football-championship"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/102997","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=102997"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/102997\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/102998"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=102997"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=102997"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=102997"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
