{"id":103474,"date":"2025-10-05T00:52:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T00:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/103474\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T00:52:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T00:52:10","slug":"cork-man-accused-of-hunting-without-permission-collapses-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/103474\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork man accused of hunting without permission collapses in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">A Cork man facing a number of charges relating to allegedly hunting with dogs without the landowner\u2019s permission, as well as taking a vehicle without permission, collapsed when he appeared at a recent sitting of Macroom District Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">DJ O\u2019Driscoll, aged 28, of Lower Codrum, Macroom, Co Cork, faced one charge of taking a vehicle without the owner\u2019s permission, but the injured party \u2014 his mother \u2014 withdrew the charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Court presenter Sergeant Trish O\u2019Sullivan said O\u2019Driscoll was also charged with unlawful hunting or entry on land and failing to keep a dog under control in public. The hunting charges related to an incident at Wood Road, Carriganine, Co. Cork on July 23, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The court heard that at 3.30pm garda\u00ed had received a call from a landowner about three males with dogs trespassing on land in the area. When garda\u00ed were travelling to the scene they met DJ O\u2019Driscoll on the public road with a lurcher dog that was not under control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Defence solicitor, Patrick Goold, said O\u2019Driscoll had permission from one landowner to hunt but not from the neighbouring landowner and his dog had strayed onto the neighbouring land and he had gone after it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The landowner told garda\u00ed that O\u2019Driscoll and two other males had been on the land without permission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The court heard that O\u2019Driscoll had 64 previous convictions including one for failing to control a dog and one for having no dog licence. At the time of the incident O\u2019Driscoll was on two suspended sentences, one for theft and one for violent disorder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Goold said O\u2019Driscoll\u2019s issues all related to \u201chuge\u201d addiction and alcohol issues that he was now dealing with, adding that his client was \u201coff the drink\u201d and engaging with treatment services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Judge Joanne Carroll said it was one thing \u201cif a young fella is out and goes after a dog\u201d, but another if there are three men on land without permission which could be \u201cquite intimidating\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Addressing O\u2019Driscoll she said it was very serious as he was on two suspended sentences at the time.
