{"id":103953,"date":"2025-10-05T11:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T11:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/103953\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T11:41:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T11:41:10","slug":"pharmacist-advises-limerick-people-ahead-of-the-winter-flu-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/103953\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacist advises Limerick people ahead of the winter flu season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live95fm.ie\/news\/live95-news\/\" class=\"c-btn c-btn--small c-btn--secondary-fill\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        All Live95 News<br \/>\n    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/68b5778feee36.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                                    Live95 Picture Library <\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            Trends show a severe flu season could be on the way.\n        <\/p>\n<p>A pharmacist is reminding people in Limerick to be wary as we head towards flu season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Medical experts have warned that a severe flu season could be heading our way following trends in Australia this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This last part of the of year usually sees a rise in cold, flu and more recently, Covid cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Live95&#8217;s Limerick Today, Denis O&#8217;Driscoll, Chief Pharmacist with McCabe&#8217;s Pharmacy, highlighted the differences between colds and flu.<\/p>\n<p>He shared, &#8220;The best way to describe the flu is that you run always at extremely high temperature with the flu and your fatigue is significant with it versus like a cough or a cold which sometimes you know you just kind of can stroke it off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The current strain of COVID has an interesting side effect and that&#8217;s extreme fatigue that would be quite a difficult one to you know untwine from each other with regards to flu and the COVID but again there are vaccinations available.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Eligibility for vaccines is very broad by the HSE, and information is available on the HSE website.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Essentially, it&#8217;s available to over 60&#8217;s, those with underlying medical conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any child between the ages of 2 to 17 can get the nasal vaccine free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And for adults, for example, in pregnancy, it&#8217;s recommended to get the flu vaccine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stay at home carers with individuals in the household who are vulnerable adults in terms of illness or a condition are also eligible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live95fm.ie\/on-air\/ways-to-listen\/?utm_source=Live95&amp;utm_medium=news+article&amp;utm_campaign=app_download\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/6655efe7844a7.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"All Live95 News Live95 Picture Library Trends show a severe flu season could be on the way.
