Jamie Carragher has labelled Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge “a joke” following what the Liverpool<\/a> icon believes are “disrespectful” comments about new Newcastle<\/a> striker Nick Woltemade.<\/p>\n

Woltemade has been a major hit at St James’ Park since his club record \u00a369million transfer, becoming only the third Toon star to score in each of his first three home Premier League<\/a> games following his strike in the 2-0 weekend win over Nottingham Forest<\/a>. Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand are the others.<\/p>\n

It came after the Germany international opened his Champions League<\/a> account in midweek, and after Rummenigge dubbed Toon chiefs ‘idiots’ for paying such a high fee to sign him from Stuttgart. Bayern had themselves been keen to land Woltemade in the summer, but refused to pay their Bundesliga rivals’ asking price.<\/p>\n

Newcastle then stole in towards the end of the transfer window and secured his club record transfer for a fee of \u00a369million.<\/p>\n

And Carragher hopes Woltemade continues to make look Bayern foolish with his performances in a Newcastle shirt.<\/p>\n

“I really like him and I actually saw that quote a few days ago and it angered me and I am not a Newcastle United<\/a> supporter,” Carragher said on Sky Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I think it is a joke really coming from someone who is part of a football club, in terms of Bayern Munich<\/a>, a really respected football club.<\/p>\n

“He shouldn’t be speaking about, especially, another German player like that so disrespectfully. That would have been all over the news in Germany and his family and friends are there.<\/p>\n

“That is our job, we are pundits, not somebody who is associated with such a fantastic club. That is really disrespectful and when I saw that I thought: ‘Do you know what? I really hope that lad shoves those words down his mouth’.<\/p>\n

“And at the start of his Premier League career it looks like he is going to do.”<\/p>\n
