Former presidential candidate Se\u00e1n Gallagher said he will \u201creflect\u201d on comments made by Gareth Sheridan, who claimed he has been the victim of a \u201cco-ordinated attack\u201d on his character.<\/p>\n

Mr Sheridan, who launched his official bid for the presidency last week, claimed that the \u201cattack\u201d was carried out by people associated with Mr Gallagher<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Sheridan\u00a0made the claims about his former business partner at his campaign launch in Dublin city centre.<\/p>\n

Mr Gallagher left Mr Sheridan\u2019s multimillion-euro pharmaceutical company, Nutriband, after serving as chairman from 2017 until 2021 after the company decided to replace him.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old is hoping to run as an independent candidate, and is seeking nominations from local councils to get his name on the ballot paper.<\/p>\n

At the opening of his campaign launch, Mr Sheridan said: \u201cThere seems to be somewhat of a co-ordinated attack taking place on my character by people associated (with), and in, Se\u00e1n Gallagher\u2019s circle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not saying for a moment that Se\u00e1n is behind this or is involved in any way.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a couple of days now, we\u2019ve been receiving essentially copy-and-paste question lists with minimal time to respond from various different outlets with the exact same questions. Something just seems a little off.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that somebody is \u201ctaking our break-up a little bit worse than me\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Mr Gallagher said the comments do not require a reaction, but a response.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was away for the last couple of weeks. Firstly, down in Clare and on the Aran islands with my wife and kids, and then last week abroad in the sunshine,\u201d he told the Joe Finnegan Show on Northern Sound radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made a bad mistake of heading away when the sunshine was arriving in Ireland. So, truthfully, I was more concerned about keeping my bald head protected from the sun than I was about watching what was happening in the election.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it has been drawn to my attention for sure. So, rather than react to the comments \u2014 I think it doesn\u2019t require a reaction \u2014 more a response.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will reflect on what was said and I am gathering that at the moment, and then I\u2019ll decide on what to respond. But that is, as we all know, part of the electioneering that goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Gallagher, who previously contested the presidential election in 2011 and again in 2018, has ruled himself out of the upcoming election.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cYou can rest assured, my name will not be going forward. I am not running.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very focused on business and a lot of the other activities I\u2019m involved in, and so I\u2019m very committed in that space.<\/p>\n
