{"id":107472,"date":"2025-10-07T23:43:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T23:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/107472\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T23:43:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T23:43:12","slug":"israeli-treatment-was-the-most-inhumane-that-he-had-ever-seen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/107472\/","title":{"rendered":"Israeli treatment was the most \u201cinhumane that he had ever seen\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five Irish activists who were held in Israel after their vessels in a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza were intercepted, have arrived back in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>The group said that they were \u201cdenied access to water, medical care and legal aid\u201d after being detained while attempting to provide humanitarian support to the people of Gaza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Five of the 15 Irish citizens who had been aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla arrived at Dublin Airport on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Dozens of people including family members, friends, and supporters gathered at arrivals to welcome home the pro-Palestinian activists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cork comedian <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/munster\/arid-41694650.html\">Tadhg Hickey<\/a> said their treatment was the most \u201cinhumane that he had ever seen in his life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He said: \u201cFor the crime of trying to get baby formula into a besieged population to try and feed starving babies, we were brought to effectively a terrorist prison camp, denied any access to lawyers, denied any access to doctors, to medical care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cOne of us, Paddy [Kelly], a 75-year-old man, was denied access to insulin. They never gave him his insulin over three or four days, knowing that easily he could die because of that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe were drinking toilet water for three or four days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Another of the group, Diarmuid Mac Dubhghlais, said they were treated as if they had \u201cno rights\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He said: \u201cThere were Israeli dogs barking and attacking Palestinian prisoners that were treated much, much worse than us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWhatever technology the Israelis had, disabled the electronic acceleration, so we were dead in the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThey knew we were coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Global Movement to Gaza Eire, the group supporting the flotilla from Ireland, hit out at the \u201cIrish Government\u2019s inaction over the genocide in Palestine\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Niamh MacNamara, coordinator with Global Movement to Gaza Eire said: \u201cOur government\u2019s inaction over the genocide and ethic cleansing in Palestine has directly led to this situation, ordinary Irish citizens forced to risk their lives because leaders refused to act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWhat happened was completely illegal under international law and should never have been allowed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIf Ireland had imposed sanctions on the genocidal state of Israel and upheld human rights, this mission would never have been necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe demand immediate political action to protect those still sailing to Gaza and to end our complicity in this genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Some of the group of 15 Irish citizens who were detained returned to Ireland on an earlier flight while more are expected to return in the early hours of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They are Caitriona Graham, Sinn F\u00e9in senator Chris Andrews, Colm Byrne, Cormac O\u2019Daly, Diarmuid MacDubhghlais, Donna Schwarz, Louise Heaney, Maureen Almai, Paddy Kelly, Patrick O\u2019Donovan, Sarah Clancy, Tadhg Hickey, Tara O\u2019Grady, Tara Sheehy, and Thomas McCune.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Five Irish activists who were held in Israel after their vessels in a flotilla carrying aid to Gaza&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":107473,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[781,4488,27860,9,10,18,13,14,6,19,17,11,12,15,16,5,9168,7,8],"class_list":{"0":"post-107472","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-headlines","8":"tag-cork-news","9":"tag-irish-examiner-instagram","10":"tag-israel-palestine","11":"tag-breaking-news","12":"tag-breakingnews","13":"tag-eire","14":"tag-featured-news","15":"tag-featurednews","16":"tag-headlines","17":"tag-ie","18":"tag-ireland","19":"tag-latest-news","20":"tag-latestnews","21":"tag-main-news","22":"tag-mainnews","23":"tag-news","24":"tag-place-republic-of-ireland","25":"tag-top-stories","26":"tag-topstories"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/107472","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=107472"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/107472\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/107473"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=107472"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=107472"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=107472"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
