{"id":108157,"date":"2025-10-08T06:16:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T06:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/108157\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T06:16:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T06:16:21","slug":"plans-for-120-new-douglas-homes-approved-following-appeal-to-an-coimisiun-pleanala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/108157\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans for 120 new Douglas homes approved following appeal to An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Plans for more than 120 homes in Douglas have been approved following an appeal by An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la.<\/p>\n<p>Developer Barrys Field Ltd received the green light from Cork City Council in June to construct 124 homes located on Carrigaline Road and Churchyard Lane in Douglas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The plans consisted of a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as a new cafe and two new office units.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The planned development ranged from one to five storeys in height and included all associated site works, such as footpaths, car and bicycle parking, drainage, and landscaping\/amenity areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Planned works also included two new uncontrolled pedestrian crossings and footpath improvements on Churchyard Lane, which required the removal of six existing on-street car parking spaces. In addition, the development works included the connection and construction of a new stormwater and foul sewer along Carrigaline Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Access to the site will be through a new vehicle access point, a new pedestrian connection from Carrigaline Road and two new pedestrian connections onto Churchyard Lane. The new vehicular access also required the removal of four existing car spaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The plans, which were greenlit by Cork City Council, were, however, appealed to An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la by several objectors, including Peter Collins of nearby bar and restaurant Barry\u2019s of Douglas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The pub owner argued the mixed-use scheme constituted an over-development of the area by reason of \u201cexcessive density\u201d and would \u201cseriously detract from the character and appearance of the village.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Collins also argued that the development may be &#8220;adversely affected&#8221; by the operation of his pub by reason of it being an &#8220;after-hours&#8221; facility, which &#8220;could potentially affect the continued operations of Barry&#8217;s Pub.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The business owner also objected to the lack of car parking to go with the development, adding that it would like result in &#8220;indiscriminate&#8221; kerbside parking in the vicinity of the site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">However, despite objections, An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la granted permission for the development, siding with Cork City Council and approving plans with 25 conditions. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Plans for more than 120 homes in Douglas have been approved following an appeal by An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":108158,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[73],"tags":[9521,79,9520,18,19,17,3525],"class_list":{"0":"post-108157","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-business","8":"tag-building","9":"tag-business","10":"tag-construction-munster","11":"tag-eire","12":"tag-ie","13":"tag-ireland","14":"tag-planning-permission"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108157","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=108157"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108157\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/108158"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=108157"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=108157"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=108157"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
