The 75-year-old actor was being interviewed ahead of his forthcoming appearance in the new Disney film Tron: Ares<\/a>, in which he reprises his role as Kevin Flynn, founder of the Encom virtual reality firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in such a troubled time, I think, is a good way to say it,\u201d Kimmel said on Tuesday night\u2019s show. \u201cPeople are getting crazier every day and I wonder if you could perhaps summon The Dude to share some words of wisdom tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late-night host then handed Bridges a cardigan reminiscent of The Dude\u2019s in the film and a pair of sunglasses to wear.<\/p>\n

Bridges then addressed the audience: \u201cHey world, The Dude here. So, uh, yeah, man. Can we just all calm the f*** down? I mean, c\u2019mon. I\u2019m talking about, you know, all the wars, the fighting, the canceling. I mean, let\u2019s just chill out, man. C\u2019mon, tone it down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re, like, at what? A nine?\u201d he continued. \u201cWe ought to be at zero. Or zero and a half at max.<\/p>\n

\u201cICE?? Let\u2019s get ICE off our streets and into our beverages, man,\u201d Bridges said, referring to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, drawing loud cheers from the studio audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis aggression will not stand,\u201d he said, quoting his character. \u201cRight?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Kimmel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo let\u2019s just abide,\u201d said Bridges. \u201cAbide together. Yes, we can do this. Now, that\u2019s just, like, my opinion, but it\u2019s a good one, don\u2019t you think, Jimmy?”<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a pretty great opinion,\u201d the host said.<\/p>\n

Kimmel\u2019s recent suspension over comments he made on his talk show about slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/a> caused an outcry about free speech.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump publicly celebrated Kimmel\u2019s suspension and the impending cancellation of Stephen Colbert\u2019s show by CBS.<\/a><\/p>\n

After six days, ABC reinstated Jimmy Kimmel Live!, with Kimmel returning to the network on September 23. He defended free speech in his return monologue, stating: \u201cOur government cannot be allowed to control what we do and do not say on television.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over in the film world, Tron: Ares is facing a different kind of backlash.<\/p>\n

In a one-star review for The Independent<\/a>, Clarisse Loughrey called the latest instalment in the franchise the \u201cworst film of the year and a new low for Disney.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe music\u2019s great, but this Jared Leto vehicle is otherwise an ethically dubious, horribly written nadir in franchise slop,\u201d wrote Loughrey.<\/p>\n
