{"id":108980,"date":"2025-10-08T14:39:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/108980\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T14:39:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:39:15","slug":"glasner-future-thrown-into-doubt-amid-man-utd-links-as-postecoglou-sack-talk-causes-despair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/108980\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasner future thrown &#8216;into doubt&#8217; amid Man Utd links as Postecoglou sack talk causes despair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We cannot yet, unfortunately, move on from the Gary Neville moral panic because the Daily Mail are still being entirely ridiculous about it.<\/p>\n<p>Happily, though, the rest of Mediawatch is on less febrile ground with the more typical collection of the media being less end-times-are-upon-us ridiculous about managers and goalkeepers and pundits.<\/p>\n<p>Fingers crossed for a Neville-free day tomorrow, although that might be asking a bit too much of the build-up to a friendly between England and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nevillegate: Day Three<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re long past the head-shaking despair stage with the ongoing attempts by this country\u2019s rabid right-wing media\u2019s attempt to fill a quiet international break (it wouldn\u2019t do to think too hard about why a video from last week has become such big news this week) with a good old-fashioned monstering as they continue their quest to get Gary Neville sacked for doing free speech wrong.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve covered the whole sorry and entirely self-concocted media storm in exhaustive detail already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/gary-neville-sack-sky-sports-racist-outburst-boycott\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/gary-neville-sack-decision-sky-sports-deluded-rant\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>, and had hoped to move on altogether today. But we are going to keep pointing it out every time the <strong>Daily Mail<\/strong> put \u2018racist\u2019 in quote marks in headlines when absolutely nobody is using the word anywhere else, because it feels particularly despicable.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Fans turn on \u2018traitor\u2019 Gary Neville: \u00a31.1m-a-year pundit is targeted by protest outside his flagship hotel and at football club he owns after his \u2018racist\u2019 Union Jack rant<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s almost like they\u2019re actually egging him on to take legal action here, so they can turn hypocritical tail and play the victim at Red Nev\u2019s attempts to silence them. Never, ever underestimate wealthy conservative white men\u2019s yearning desire to be oppressed; it\u2019s the one thing they can never have.<\/p>\n<p>At least the \u2018traitor\u2019 in that headline is a direct quote. It comes from a banner being held up outside Neville\u2019s hotel in Manchester yesterday, and later seen at Salford\u2019s game, which, thoughtfully and legitimate-concerns-edly, reads \u2018GARY NEVILLE TRAITOR SCUM\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, this whole sorry load of old bollocks all stems from Gary Neville saying that division in this country is being stoked by \u2018angry white middle-aged men who know exactly what they\u2019re doing\u2019. You\u2019ll never guess who was holding the banner.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ange fall<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of quite reasonable points made in Matt Barlow\u2019s <strong>Daily Mail<\/strong> lament about the speed with which managers find themselves under pressure and facing the sack these days in the \u2018global soap opera of knee-jerk reactions\u2019 that the Premier League has become.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/nottinham-forest-shock-postecoglou-replacement-potter-marinakis-silva-fulham\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ange Postecoglou\u2019s already fragile future at Nottingham Forest<\/strong><\/a> is the hook upon which the narrative hangs and, while we can allow the slight glossing over of the fact it has been a very, very bad seven games for a manager with a very, very bad Premier League record over a really quite extended period of time now, we can\u2019t help but wonder whether a bit more introspection might be called for beyond a brief nod to \u2018press box egos\u2019 amid the contributing voices to this modern collective rush to swift judgement.<\/p>\n<p>We might, for instance, consider headlines such as this one\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The signs Ange Postecoglou\u2019s time at Nottingham Forest is already up<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026or this one\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Nottingham Forest line up rival Premier League boss as long term target as they weigh up whether to sack Ange Postecoglou after just SEVEN games<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026or\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ange Postecoglou\u2019s future at Nottingham Forest hangs in the balance ahead of Newcastle trip \u2013 as fans chant for under-fire boss to be \u2018sacked\u2019 after just 24 days at the helm<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026or\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ange Postecoglou admits he HASN\u2019T spoken to Evangelos Marinakis since his side\u2019s embarrassing defeat to FC Midtjylland where fans chanted \u2018you\u2019re getting sacked in the morning!\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026or\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Why Angeball isn\u2019t working at Nottingham Forest: From possession and positioning to set-pieces and shots, this is exactly where it\u2019s gone so wrong so quickly<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And\u2026 well, you get the idea with that. Obviously, all those headlines are from\u2026 the Daily Mail. None of them are even unreasonable, many of them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/tag\/ange-postecoglou\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>making similar points to those made upon these very pages<\/strong><\/a>, but they do also make it rather harder to get that \u2018it all just happens so fast these days\u2019 lament to stick.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whar declared<\/p>\n<p>Manchester United remain a primary source of interlull clicks, and the Mirror aren\u2019t about to let a Crystal Palace player talking about Crystal Palace stop them.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Oliver Glasner\u2019s Crystal Palace future thrown into doubt amid Man Utd speculation \u2013 \u2018We will see\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Obviously you\u2019re supposed to think Oliver Glasner, rather than Adam Wharton (for it is he), has given that quote.<\/p>\n<p>And, equally obviously, you\u2019re supposed to think that it means literally anything at all beyond being the standard boilerplate \u2018rule nothing out\u2019 clause required in any and all answers about any and all transfer speculation \u2013 and doubly so when a player is also talking about anyone other than himself.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s Wharton supposed to say here, out of interest, to avoid throwing his manager\u2019s future \u2018into doubt\u2019? That Glasner will never leave Crystal Palace and is getting a tattoo of an eagle on his left buttock?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Court out<\/p>\n<p>It was certainly quite discombobulating to watch a competent display of goalkeeping from a Manchester United keeper at the weekend, but luckily nobody is going to get too carried away by one good performance against Sunderland at home.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, no, sorry, <strong>The Sun<\/strong> are going to say this.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ruben Amorim convinced Senne Lammens is Man Utd\u2019s answer to Thibaut Courtois after huge first impression<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Goes without saying that any quotes where Amorim says he\u2019s convinced Senne Lammens is \u2018Man Utd\u2019s answer to Thibaut Courtois\u2019 sadly didn\u2019t make it into the final copy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Headline omission of the day<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re big fans of this kind of headline, ones where what\u2019s omitted is always, always, always more important than what\u2019s included.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Man Utd news: \u2018Ruben Amorim successor named\u2019 as flops told \u2018sorry, you\u2019ve got to step up\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not one but two important omissions here that by sheer unfortunate coincidence make some pundit blather look like actual United decisions and\/or statements.
