He then went on to criticise \u201clads in pubs\u201d who don\u2019t like Swift.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Swift has taken to social media to offer her praise of Yungblud\u2018s mashup performance of her song \u2018Cardigan\u2019 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/avril-lavigne\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Avril Lavigne<\/a>\u2018s classic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/taylor-swift-breaks-adeles-streaming-era-record-with-new-album-the-life-of-a-showgirl-3898032\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018I\u2019m With You\u2019, which arrived in 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis took my breath away and I\u2019m honoured to hear \u2018Cardigan\u2019 intertwined with the wonderful Avril Lavigne\u2019s masterpiece \u2018I\u2019m With You\u2019,\u201d she tweeted. \u201cBravo and thanks Yungblud!\u201d the musician shared at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the full interview with Yungblud and Maher below:<\/p>\n<p>Swift released her 12th studio album \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-review-3897387\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Life Of A Showgirl<\/a>\u2019 on Friday (October 3), the follow-up to last year\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/taylor-swift-the-tortured-poets-department-lyrics-tracklist-3619454\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Tortured Poets Department<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Swift has now broken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/adele\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adele\u2019s<\/a> streaming-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/taylor-swift-breaks-adeles-streaming-era-record-with-new-album-the-life-of-a-showgirl-3898032\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">era record with her new album release, chart figures have revealed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been revealed that \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019 has earned 3.5million album units in the US alone, as per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/chart-beat\/taylor-swift-life-of-a-showgirl-first-day-sales-debut-week-1236082178\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Billboard<\/a>. Of this total, traditional album sales (physical and digital purchases), equal 3.2million copies, while the remaining 300,000 relate to streaming.<\/p>\n<p>This now surpasses the record previously set by Adele in the opening week of \u201825\u2019 when it debuted with 3.378million copies sold in 2015. Swift\u2019s \u2018Showgirl\u2019 has now secured a new record for the largest week, by equivalent album units, for an album, since the Billboard chart began ranking the most popular albums by equivalent units in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/taylor-swift-unbothered-by-the-life-of-a-showgirl-criticism-i-know-what-i-made-3897850\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Swift has addressed the criticism she\u2019s received for her latest album<\/a> after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/fans-react-to-taylor-swifts-the-life-of-a-showgirl-taylor-swift-youve-done-it-again-3896920\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fans have been vocal about their thoughts on the album<\/a> \u2013 with some calling it \u201cher best album\u201d and the return of \u201cpop perfection\u201d, and others declaring it \u201cthe worst Taylor Swift album yet\u201d and \u201cboring and basic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3884693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-2@2000x1270.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Swift press picture life of a showgirl review\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1270\"  \/>Taylor Swift, 2025. Credit: Mert Alas &amp; Marcus Piggot<\/p>\n<p>In a new chat with Apple Music\u2019s Zane Lowe, Swift has addressed the criticism she\u2019s received for the album. \u201cI welcome the chaos,\u201d she began. \u201cThe rule of show business is if it\u2019s the first week of my album release, and you are saying either my name or my album title, you\u2019re helping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cI have a lot of respect for people\u2019s subjective opinions on art \u2013 I\u2019m not the art police. Everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want and what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror. Oftentimes an album is a really, really wild way to look at yourself \u2013 what you\u2019re going through in your life is gonna affect whether you relate to the music I\u2019m putting out at any given moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, the singer has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/taylor-swift-thinks-of-eras-tour-every-day-but-has-no-itch-to-tour-again-soon-3896943\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruled out touring<\/a> off the back of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/taylor-swifts-eras-tour-brings-in-record-breaking-2billion-3820379\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">record-breaking Eras tour<\/a>, adding: \u201cI\u2019m gonna be really honest with you.
