This is the case with Apophis, an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/A-near-Earth-asteroid-passed-close-to-our-planet-on-October-1-2025.1131786.0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">asteroid<\/a> of 340 meters in diameter which will offer a spectacle that only occurs once every <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/2515-5172\/ac3519\/ampdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">7,500 years<\/a> to two billion people in 2029.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">When it was discovered in 2004, this giant caused a shockwave in the scientific community. It must be said that it presented a 2.7% risk of colliding with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/This-spacecraft-will-be-able-to-deliver-packages-anywhere-on-Earth-in-less-than-an-hour.1132372.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Earth<\/a>, placing it at level 4 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cneos.jpl.nasa.gov\/sentry\/torino_scale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Torino Scale<\/a>. Fortunately, over the years, observations have allowed to redefine its trajectory, and in 2021, any threat was definitively ruled out for at least a century.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">But during its passage 30,000 km from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/Chinese-scientists-create-a-magnetic-field-700-000-times-stronger-than-Earth-s.1130752.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Earth<\/a>, scheduled for April 13, 2029, Apophis could be affected by Earth&#8217;s gravity, which could alter its trajectory. And this could be a unique opportunity for scientists to observe the effects of this gravity on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/An-interstellar-object-is-currently-traveling-through-our-solar-system-at-60-km-per-second.1050234.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">celestial object<\/a> in real time.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">In addition, NASA has decided to reorient the <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/osiris-rex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OSIRIS-REx<\/a> space probe, which is set to study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/NASA-finds-stardust-older-than-the-solar-system-in-asteroid-Bennu.1105589.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bennu<\/a>, so that it can fly over Apophis during its passage, and Europe has also made the same choice with the Ramses project, which could observe this asteroid with the help of a small <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notebookcheck.net\/T-Mobile-brings-Starlink-satellite-Internet-data-and-video-calls-to-older-phones.1130827.0.html\" target=\"_self\" class=\"internal-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">satellite<\/a> capable of detecting seismic waves.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>An incredible show for two billion people<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Finally, if Apophis poses no threat, it could provide a unique spectacle in the night sky. But be careful, because clear weather will be needed, and it will be necessary to monitor the weather when the time comes, not forgetting that other cosmic events may occur between now and then.&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Finally, the passage of Apophis could serve as a test for potential new threats from space.
