{"id":112076,"date":"2025-10-09T22:07:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:07:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/112076\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T22:07:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:07:36","slug":"ringo-starr-is-the-only-ex-beatle-to-achieve-these-hot-100-feats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/112076\/","title":{"rendered":"Ringo Starr Is the Only Ex-Beatle to Achieve These Hot 100 Feats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUMe\u2019s announcement today that it is reissuing <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/ringo-starr\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/ringo-starr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ringo Starr<\/a>\u2019s first four solo albums on colored vinyl on Oct. 24 puts a spotlight on his celebrated 1973 album Ringo, which enabled him to set three Billboard Hot 100 records that he holds to this day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tStarr is the only ex-<a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/the-beatles\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/the-beatles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beatle<\/a> to land two No. 1 singles from one studio album and the only one to release back-to-back singles that both reached No. 1. Starr topped the Hot 100 in November 1973 with \u201cPhotograph,\u201d which he co-wrote with his former Beatles bandmate <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/george-harrison\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/george-harrison\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Harrison<\/a>. His follow-up, \u201cYou\u2019re Sixteen,\u201d a jaunty remake of a 1960 hit by Johnny Burnette, reached No. 1 in January 1974. For a few weeks, it looked like Starr might be headed for a third No. 1 hit from Ringo, but the vibrant \u201cOh My My,\u201d the album\u2019s third single, peaked at No. 5. Still, that was enough to make Ringo the only album by an ex-Beatle to spawn three top five singles on the Hot 100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAll three singles were released from Starr\u2019s third studio album, Ringo, which was produced by <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/richard-perry\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/richard-perry\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Perry<\/a>, one of the hottest producers of the era. (Perry <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/pop\/richard-perry-top-record-producer-dead-at-82-1235865301\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/pop\/richard-perry-top-record-producer-dead-at-82-1235865301\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died last December<\/a> at age 82.) Starr\u2019s first two studio albums were Sentimental Journey, a 1970 collection drawn from the Great American Songbook, and Beaucoups of Blues, a 1970 country- and folk-shaded album recorded in Nashville. So Ringo was his first contemporary pop\/rock album. On the album, Starr collaborated with his Beatles bandmates <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/john-lennon\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/john-lennon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Lennon<\/a>, <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/paul-mccartney\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/paul-mccartney\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul McCartney<\/a> and Harrison, as well as Harry Nilsson, Martha Reeves, Billy Preston, Marc Bolan of T. Rex and The Band\u2019s Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm and Rick Danko, among others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tReleased on Nov. 2, 1973, Ringo reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It was Starr\u2019s highest-charting album, which makes him the only ex-Beatle not to top the Billboard 200. Ringo was kept out of the top spot by <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/elton-john\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/elton-john\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elton John<\/a>\u2019s classic double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. (There were no hard feelings: John contributed to Starr\u2019s follow-up album, Goodnight Vienna, co-writing \u201cSnookeroo\u201d and playing piano on the track.)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<strong>Near-Misses: Two No. 1 singles from one album<\/strong>\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMcCartney\u2019s band Wings nearly had two No. 1 singles from its 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound. \u201cSilly Love Songs\u201d logged five weeks at No. 1; \u201cLet \u2018Em In\u201d peaked at No. 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFive years later, Lennon nearly achieved the feat with his 1980 album with Yoko Ono, Double Fantasy, which was released three weeks before he was shot to death.\u00a0 \u201c(Just Like) Starting Over\u201d logged five weeks at No. 1; \u201cWoman\u201d reached No. 2.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<strong>Near-Misses: Back-to-back single releases that hit No. 1<\/strong>\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn addition to the two instances noted above, McCartney came close four more times:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 1973, he followed the No. 1 \u201cMy Love\u201d (credited to Paul McCartney &amp; Wings) with the soundtrack single \u201cLive and Let Die\u201d (credited to Wings), which reached No. 2.<\/li>\n<li>In 1974, Paul McCartney &amp; Wings followed the No. 1 \u201cBand on the Run\u201d with the non-album single \u201cJunior\u2019s Farm,\u201d which reached No. 3.<\/li>\n<li>In the early 1980s, McCartney hit No. 1 with both \u201cComing Up (Live at Glasgow),\u201d which he recorded with Wings, and \u201cEbony and Ivory,\u201d which he recorded with Stevie Wonder. But he released a single in between them, \u201cWaterfalls,\u201d which reached No. 6 on Billboard\u2019s Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart.<\/li>\n<li>In 1983, McCartney and a red-hot Michael Jackson followed the No. 2 peaking \u201cThe Girl Is Mine\u201d with the No. 1 smash \u201cSay Say Say.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t<strong>Near-Misses: Three top five singles from one album<\/strong>\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMcCartney &amp; Wings\u2019 Band on the Run and Lennon and Ono\u2019s Double Fantasy each spawned three top 10 hits, but they all didn\u2019t make the top five.UMe\u2019s Re-Release Plans<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<strong>UMe\u2019s Re-Release Plans<\/strong>\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tUMe is planning to release limited-edition pressings of Starr\u2019s first four albums on colored vinyl. All will be available via Starr\u2019s official store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSentimental Journey, produced by Beatles producer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/george-martin\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/george-martin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Martin<\/a>, will be issued on Buttermilk Yellow color vinyl. Beaucoups of Blues, produced by Peter Drake, will be issued on Baby Blue color vinyl. Ringo will be issued on Molten Lava color vinyl.
