Broadchurch<\/a> star Matthew Gravelle’s crime drama Mudtown is premiering its English-language version on TV tonight.<\/p>\n

Mudtown<\/a> will air on U&Alibi at 9pm tonight<\/strong>, eight months after the Welsh-language version (Ar y Ffin) aired on S4C and BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n

Described as a “bold” and “gritty” crime drama which delivers a “twist” on the genre, the series, which is set in Wales, filmed its Welsh and English versions back-to-back in mid 2024. <\/p>\n

It focuses on “experienced Magistrate Claire Lewis Jones” (played by Gotham’s Erin Richards) as she “faces personal turmoil while presiding over cases at Newport Magistrates Court”.

The synopsis reads: “When Ned Humphries, a childhood friend of Beca, Claire’s daughter, faces arson charges, Claire’s loyalty to her community is put to the test. Matters are made worse when local criminal kingpin Saint Pete appears on the scene.<\/p>\n

“Claire and Saint Pete go back a long way \u2013 will her past come back to threaten her present? As she delves deeper into the case, and suspicions grow around her daughter’s new bad-boy boyfriend, Sonny Higgins, Claire uncovers a web of criminal activity that could put her and her family at risk.”<\/p>\n

The series, which also stars The Gold actor Tom Cullen, was written by actor-turned-writer Hannah Daniel (who played DCI Morgan in EastEnders) and Georgia Lee who is a real-life magistrate. <\/p>\n

U&Alibi has described it as a “bold” series, adding it’s a “must-watch for fans of layered crime drama, combining emotional grit with sharp social relevance”.<\/p>\n

In a statement last year, Daniel and Lee said: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to represent the untold world of the magistrate’s court, shot through with an authentic South Walian spirit. <\/p>\n

“We couldn’t be more excited about bringing the characters and this thrilling story to the screen with such strong partners.”<\/p>\n
