{"id":113239,"date":"2025-10-10T11:29:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T11:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/113239\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T11:29:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T11:29:07","slug":"donegal-woman-crowned-uks-young-national-chef-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/113239\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal woman crowned UK\u2019s Young National Chef of the Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A talented Donegal woman has been crowned UK\u2019s Young National Chef of the Year for 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keira Carolan (21), from Coolyslin, Castlefinn, won over the judges with her \u2018exceptional\u2019 three-course meal while being \u2018technically brilliant\u2019 at the finals at the University of West London. The prestigious competition is run by the Craft Guild of Chefs and she was unveiled as the winner at Sunday\u2019s glitzy awards ceremony at The Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square, London. Keira finished in an impressive third place in last year\u2019s competition and, clearly, her career is on an upward trajectory.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was rewarded for her big win with a number of vouchers to Michelin Star restaurants as well as \u00a33,000 from the Worshipful Company of Cooks of London to spend on culinary development.<\/p>\n<p>A daughter of Anne Marie and James, she began working in kitchens as early as 15 years of age. After finishing her secondary education at Holy Cross College in Strabane, she got her first start at \u2018Buffers\u2019 restaurant at Oakfield Park, Raphoe, before moving on to \u2018The Banks\u2019 eatery in Strabane. From there, and instead of going to catering college, Keira applied to \u2018The Simon Rogan Academy\u2019, and got accepted.<\/p>\n<p>She subsequently moved to the Lake District where she worked at Simon Rogan\u2019s restaurants, including Rogan &amp; Co, L\u2019Enclume and Henrock, during her apprenticeship. She also attended her Academy course at Kendal College.<\/p>\n<p>Since graduating from the Academy, she now works at Henrock under Chef Mark McCabe of the recent Great British Menu fame.<\/p>\n<p>During her career in the UK she has won : National Seafood Chef of the Year which she competed in with her partner Dylan Evan\u2019s, also a chef; Lancashire Life Young Chef of the Year and\u00a0 Craft Guild of Chefs Young Chef of the Year Award\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, last weekend she was crowned Young National Chef of the Year for 2026.
