Newstalk<\/a> presenter Kieran Cuddihy<\/a> is set to be the new host of RT\u00c9 Radio<\/a> 1\u2019s Liveline, the national broadcaster has announced. <\/p>\n

There was much speculation that Cuddihy would take on the role after Newstalk announced he was leaving the station on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

RT\u00c9 confirmed on Friday morning that Cuddihy would replace Joe Duffy<\/a> as host of Liveline following the veteran broadcaster\u2019s retirement last June. <\/p>\n

The news of Cuddihy\u2019s move to RT\u00c9 comes after staff at Newstalk were informed on Thursday night of his departure.<\/p>\n

An email sent by senior management at the radio station announcing Cuddihy\u2019s departure stated that his Thursday show was his final time hosting on the station.<\/p>\n

The announcement came just hours after RT\u00c9 announced that broadcaster Ray D\u2019Arcy<\/a> is leaving RT\u00c9 Radio 1<\/a> after 11 years presenting his daily afternoon show.<\/p>\n

It is understood that Cuddihy will no longer present The Tonight Show on Virgin Media Television. The Irish Times has contacted Cuddihy and Virgin Media for comment.<\/p>\n

A number of other changes are being made to the RT\u00c9 Radio 1 schedule including the new Today with David McCullagh show from 9am to 11am, with Oliver Callan moving to a longer time slot of 11am to 1pm.<\/p>\n

The News at One and Livelive will retain their 1pm and 1.45pm slots, respectively. <\/p>\n

Louise Duffy will move to a midafternoon slot of 3pm to 4pm.<\/p>\n

Katie Hannon and Colm \u00d3 Mong\u00e1in will host Drivetime from 4pm to 6pm, taking over from Sarah McInerney and Cormac \u00d3 hEadhra. There will also be a new daily sports show at 6pm.<\/p>\n

Patricia Monahan, RT\u00c9\u2019s director of audio, said the new schedule \u201cmarks the beginning of an exciting new chapter\u201d and has been \u201cdesigned to meet the changing listening habits of audiences\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said McInerney and \u00d3 hEadhra will \u201ccontinue to be a regular presence on RT\u00c9 and Radio 1\u2033 with their new roles announced in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Tara Campbell, head of RT\u00c9 Radio 1, said the new schedule \u201cintroduces some new and younger voices while seeing many of our award-winning presenters move into new presenting duties\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cuddihy has been working at Newstalk since 2011. He has presented The Hard Shoulder, a daily news and current affairs programme, since 2020.<\/p>\n

The broadcaster has also been at the helm of the television programme The Tonight Show on Virgin Media since February.<\/p>\n

He recently moderated the first broadcast presidential debate on Virgin Media last month.<\/p>\n
