And it was a misogynistic deed. And you know, women across the country have to deal with this type of abuse,\u201d she told South East Radio\u2019s Morning Mix with Alan Corcoran. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cBut I stand up for mn\u00e1 na h\u00c9ireann, and won\u2019t let this knock me back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms Humphreys said that Brolly \u201cdoesn\u2019t deserve to be talked about, as far as I\u2019m concerned. \u201cI don\u2019t want to dignify it with a further response.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ms Humphreys told the local radio station that she did not know \u201cwhat the thinking was\u201d behind the video. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cBut what I can say is, I\u2019m a strong woman, and I\u2019m not going to let something like that knock me back. And in fact, it\u2019ll probably help me, to drive me on even further.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/politics\/2025\/10\/09\/candidates-clash-in-third-live-debate-as-campaign-becomes-more-confrontational\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Candidates clash in third live debate as presidential campaign becomes more confrontationalOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In the clip, which was widely shared online on Thursday evening, Brolly appears to be impersonating a presidential candidate who is answering questions while performing a graphic depiction of a sex act. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The clip, which was originally posted and then deleted by the Free State podcast, was broadly assumed to be referring to Ms Humphreys. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The Free State podcast recently did a long-form interview with Independent candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/catherine-connolly\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/catherine-connolly\">Catherine Connolly<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Friday morning Brolly issued a statement saying he was referring to the Fianna F\u00e1il candidate Jim Gavin when performing the impression of a sex act, which was captured in a video clip of his podcast recording. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">But in a media engagement shortly afterwards, Ms Humphreys said that she felt the video was \u201cvery misogynistic\u201d and \u201cit was targeted at women\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/politics\/2025\/10\/10\/keepie-uppies-reichstag-gaffe-and-gaza-aras-contenders-fight-for-votes-on-social-media\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Connolly keepie-uppies, Humphreys\u2019s \u2018quality videos\u2019: The presidential social media battleOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The original podcast episode, posted on Tuesday, had been about how Mr Gavin \u201ccame undone\u201d in his bid for the presidency. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Fianna F\u00e1il candidate announced on Sunday evening following media reports that, 16 years ago, a tenant had accidentally overpaid him by \u20ac3,300 and despite repeated requests, he had not returned it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Using a comparison between the Rose of Tralee pageant and the presidential election, Brolly had suggested on the podcast that Mr Gavin was not suited to the campaign. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cJust to be clear, on the podcast I was talking about Jim Gavin being unsuited to the insubstantial nature of the presidential campaign. It was nothing to do with Heather,\u201d Brolly said on Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Sunday Independent columnist posted a transcript from the deleted clip, where Brolly says \u201ca lot of us know Jim well and &#8230; he\u2019s not sort of, the Irish presidential campaign.
