Kieran Cuddihy<\/a>\u2019s appearance on Friday night\u2019s Late Late Show<\/a> has been cancelled after RT\u00c9<\/a> received legal correspondence from Newstalk<\/a> warning that the presenter remained under contract with the radio station. <\/p>\n

Newstalk also sent a legal letter to Mr Cuddihy noting his contractual obligations to the station meant he would be unable to appear on tonight\u2019s show. <\/p>\n

\u201cKieran Cuddihy is unable to be a guest on The Late Late Show to be broadcast tonight,\u201d an RT\u00c9 spokeswoman said without elaborating as to the reason for the change in plan. <\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for Newstalk said: \u201cIn response to promotional material published for tonight\u2019s Late Late Show, Newstalk \/ Bauer Media has contacted RT\u00c9 to make them aware of contractual obligations that remain in force.\u201d <\/p>\n

RT\u00c9 confirmed on Friday morning that Mr Cuddihy will be the new presenter of Liveline<\/a> just hours after Newstalk management had emailed staff to confirm the presenter of the station\u2019s Hard Shoulder programme was leaving with immediate effect. <\/p>\n

Mr Cuddihy will also no longer present The Tonight Show on Virgin Media Television after he works out his notice period.<\/p>\n

Speaking on RT\u00c9 Radio 1 on Friday, Patricia Monahan, the broadcaster\u2019s director of audio, said Mr Cuddihy was one of more than 500 people who applied to succeed Joe Duffy as Liveline host.<\/p>\n

\u201cKieran applied like everybody else, and went through a very robust process that we ran in Radio 1,\u201d Ms Monahan said. \u201cIt was less a decision to go outside [of RT\u00c9] than to identify the right candidate for the job, as far as we were concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

A radical RT\u00c9 Radio 1 schedule shake-up was confirmed less than 24 hours after the announcement of presenter Ray D\u2019Arcy<\/a>\u2019s departure from the national broadcaster. <\/p>\n

On Thursday, Mr D\u2019Arcy, who had presented The Ray D\u2019Arcy Show on Radio 1 since February 2015, said he was \u201chugely disappointed\u201d with how RT\u00c9 management handled the situation.<\/p>\n

Ms Monahan said \u201cwith change of this scale, there are always difficult conversations to be had, and that\u2019s never easy for anybody\u201d.<\/p>\n
