\n\tThe GMA Dove Awards<\/a> celebrated many of the biggest songs and artists of the year when the annual awards ceremony aired on Friday night (Oct. 10) on TBN. This year\u2019s awards show took place at Nashville\u2019s Bridgestone Arena (the awards show had previously been held at Lipscomb University\u2019s Allen Arena for several years).<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the theme \u201cCreation Sings,\u201d it was appropriate that the evening both started and concluded with two elements: the evening began with For King & Country<\/a>, Taylor Hill, Africa Nashvlle, and Stage Ready performing a new song, \u201cWorld on Fire,\u201d as flames danced across the stage.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show was filled with uplifting singing, all aimed a sharing a faith-filled message. Being in Music City, a various sounds were represented during the evening, including rap\/hip-hop, Southern Gospel, Spanish-language, pop, and country.<\/p>\n

\n\tNew artist of the year winner Leanna Crawford<\/a> performed her hit \u201cStill Waters (Psalm 23),\u201d while host Tauren Wells and Gio also offered up a sterling, energetic rendition of \u201cLet the Church Sing,\u201d complete with staging that included pews and a church podium, as he sang joined by a choir.<\/p>\n

\n\tJosiah Queen performed \u201cDusty Bibles\u201d and \u201cThe Prodigal\u201d while Elevation Worship<\/a> and Elevation Rhythm<\/a> performed \u201cGoodbye Yesterday\u201d and \u201cI Have Decided.\u201d Other performers included Fred Hammond<\/a> with The Choir Room.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsrael & New Breed teamed with Unified Sound, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, Alex Campos, Christine D\u2019Clario, Josh and Waleska Morales, Ingrid Rosario, Janina Rosado, Lucia Parker, Nate Diaz and Aaron Moses for a charismatic, uplifting performance of \u201cCoritos de Fuego,\u201d while flying several flags including flags representing Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. <\/p>\n

\n\tForrest Frank was awarded the biggest honor of the evening, artist of the year, as well as accolades for pop\/contemporary recorded song of the year (\u201cYOUR WAY\u2019S BETTER\u201d) and pop\/contemporary album of the year (CHILD OF GOD). Frank had previously released a video on social media stating<\/a> he was not attending the awards ceremony, and was not present at the ceremony.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Brandon Lake<\/a>\/Jelly Roll<\/a> collaboration \u201cHard Fought Hallelujah\u201d took home honors for song of the year, bluegrass\/country\/roots recorded song of the year and short form music video. Lake took home five total awards \u2014 he also won songwriter of the year-artist, and worship recorded song of the year, for \u201cI Know a Name\u201d with Elevation Worship and Chris Brown.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not sure how much I belong speaking up here right now\u2026I ain\u2019t been this nervous since I went to criminal court, y\u2019all,\u201d Jelly Roll said as he took the stage alongside Lake as song of the year winners for \u201cHard Fought Hallelujah.\u201d \u201cThis is a real thing for me\u2026.I was thinking about Matthew, when he talks about \u2018the least,\u2019 when he said, \u2018When I was hungry, you fed me, when I was thirsty you gave me water, when I was in jail you came and visited me and I realized I am standing here because people took the time with the least. I want to give this message as clear as I can\u2026the world is hearing about Jesus like they haven\u2019t in decades right now. There is a revival happening in the United States of America, where you can\u2019t go on a corner and not hear about Jesus right now,\u201d he said, encouraging those listening, \u201cThey\u2019ve heard of Jesus, now go show them Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHulvey accepted the rap\/hip-hop album of the year accolade for his project Cry, saying, \u201cGlory to the father. And GMA, thank y\u2019all for doing things spirit-filled, for showing the world that we can love Him through our music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCarrie Underwood joined Ben Fuller on a rendition of their collaboration \u201cIf It Was Up to Me.\u201d To commemorate the Opry 100 celebration happening this year as the Grand Ole Opry celebrates its centennial anniversary, Opry members Steven Curtis Chapman, Vince Gill and Lady A highlighted the longstanding ties between country music and faith-filled messages, performing a version of Hank Williams Sr.\u2019s \u201cI Saw the Light,\u201d as well as Lady A\u2019s \u201cI Run to You,\u201d Gill\u2019s \u201cGo Rest High on That Mountain\u201d and the country classic \u201cWill The Circle Be Unbroken.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn winning Gospel worship recorded song of the year for \u201cCome Jesus Come\u201d with Shirley Caesar, Winans thanked Caesar, telling the crowd, \u201cI love her, I grew up listening to her, so to be able to sing with her was just amazing..I\u2019m honored to do what we all get a chance to do,\u201d adding, \u201cGod is faithful\u2026we have an awesome responsibility and that is to bring as many people as we can\u2026Let\u2019s remember why we do what we do, so God would be glorified, and so that as many souls as possible would come to know who Jesus is.\u201d Winans also sang \u201cCome Jesus Come\u201d during the evening, turning in one of the most inspired, powerful performances.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe evening closed with another surprise, as Jon Batiste joined Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake to perform \u201cHard Fought Hallelujah.\u201d They performed on the main stage at Bridgestone, as rain poured down over the performers onstage.<\/p>\n
