Lately, they say<strong> <\/strong>that\u2019s begun to change.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv3000153b6nl8mo4wc9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Homes that would have once been flooded with buyer interest are languishing on the market, Lori Harris said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv3000163b6n72jv7v7y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIn years past, we would have packed open houses and then get 15 offers. Now, we sometimes still have packed opens but only get one offer,\u201d she added.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv3000173b6n1lbkh8dy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            LA isn\u2019t the only city where the housing market is losing steam. In the years following the pandemic, a fever gripped the housing market: Sellers juggled multiple offers and scarce listings were often bid far above asking.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv3000183b6ne0y2sfwq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Now, that fever looks to be breaking.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv3000193b6nm1ybp3r1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            More homes have come <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/05\/29\/business\/home-sellers-market-redfin-report\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on the market this year<\/a>, but buyers aren\u2019t biting the way they used to. Tired of high mortgage rates, surging insurance costs and stubbornly expensive listings, many are sitting on the sidelines. The ones who are interested are taking their time and searching for a good deal, real estate agents told CNN. That shift has weakened sellers\u2019 grip on the housing market and given buyers new leverage.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsv30001a3b6n5jo33ocs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt feels like buyers are the most cautious they\u2019ve been since the beginning of Covid,\u201d said Brock Harris.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggsqkw00133b6nnc12qu75@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There are some signs that the lack of enthusiasm from buyers across the country is translating into softening sales prices.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001f3b6nbqzauf86@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            More than one in four home sellers on Zillow cut their asking price in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zillow.com\/research\/pandemic-boom-price-cuts-35404\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according<\/a> to the real estate search engine. That\u2019s the highest share on record for June since at least 2018, Zillow said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmehc0d6t00003b6nvpxgwz3y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The pullback in demand is hitting newly constructed homes, as well. A Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nahb.org\/news-and-economics\/press-releases\/2025\/08\/builder-confidence-plateaus-at-relatively-low-level\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report<\/a> from the National Association of Home Builders said that 66% of housing construction firms employed sales incentives to attract buyers, the highest percentage in the post-Covid period.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/gettyimages-2223101073.jpg\" alt=\"More and more homebuilders are using sales incentives to attract buyers.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1404\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001g3b6ndvijj7i0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            As is always the case with real estate, location matters. More than 30% of the nation\u2019s largest markets have seen prices dip by at least 1% from recent highs, according to an August <a href=\"https:\/\/mortgagetech.ice.com\/publicdocs\/mortgage\/imt-august-2025-mortgage-monitor-report-5tOa9w225aOC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report<\/a> by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeheai2j00003b6n432q5se7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Few places illustrate the housing market\u2019s reversal as starkly as Florida.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001i3b6n8vkp3gv0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            South Florida\u2019s housing market took off after the pandemic, fueled by remote workers drawn to sunshine and relaxed Covid restrictions. But over the past two years, the state\u2019s housing market has significantly stalled \u2013 a harbinger of what is now happening in other areas of the country.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001h3b6n6zozm20k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOverall, I would call this a buyer\u2019s market,\u201d Sharon Ross, a real estate agent based in Delray Beach, Florida, said of her area. \u201cWe\u2019ve got heavy inventory.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001j3b6n4xwwkcfr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Price declines in Florida continue to lead all states, ICE found, with 85% of counties in the state showing annual price declines.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001k3b6nnvx3p69e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Along with Florida, Texas has also seen steep price cuts this year, the report found. Parts of California, Arizona, Colorado and Idaho have seen home prices decline by more than 3% from recent highs, according to the report.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/gettyimages-2228117841.jpg\" alt=\"Home sales have fallen across South Florida as high interest rates and other factors have weighed on the market.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1287\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001l3b6nallibk68@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The slowdown isn\u2019t affecting all areas equally, though. Some areas in the Northeast and Midwest are still seeing prices rise, but at a slower pace than in years past, ICE found.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001m3b6ng3y0l8eo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Ross said many of the buyers she works with are no longer willing to pay the prices they might have a few years ago, now that home insurance rates and property taxes have climbed so much higher.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001n3b6noqk7jj9d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some sellers in the area have been shocked by lackluster interest in their homes.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggt4l2001o3b6nc6t6ok03@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI\u2019ve had three single-family houses that all canceled their listings because they could not get the price they wanted,\u201d Ross said. \u201cThe challenge is managing their expectations.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmedi7xt5001m3b6n4gnn7zpu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Elevated home prices and stubborn mortgage rates only tell part of the story of the slowdown, said Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00023b6nvds9ffnl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think it\u2019s not just a story about mortgage rates and affordability,\u201d Fairweather said. \u201cThere is some hesitancy to make a big financial commitment when there is so much economic uncertainty going on.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00033b6n3tt4ven7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            President Donald Trump\u2019s trade and tariff policies have chipped away at economic growth, while a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/01\/economy\/us-jobs-report-july\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">weaker-than-expected jobs report<\/a> last month has deepened concerns that the slowdown may be sharper than anticipated.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00043b6n90brc5jq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIf you lose your job, it can be really scary that you might not be able to find another job that would allow you to keep paying your mortgage,\u201d Fairweather said. \u201cThat may be weighing on the minds of buyers.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00053b6n0tzab7zl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Another factor that may be keeping some renters from making the leap into homeownership: The rental market has steadied.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00063b6ngl79nss6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Until recently, median rents across the United States had been slipping, easing the pressure on tenants to buy.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00073b6n8yljr6pa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIf you\u2019re looking at a one-bedroom condo versus a one-bedroom apartment, it\u2019s going to be pretty obvious that the monthly payment is going to be a lot lower for the one-bedroom apartment in most places,\u201d Fairweather said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju00083b6nbl8lte2r@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            However, recently, that trend began reversing. The median asking rent rose 1.7% year-over-year in July, the largest jump since January 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/rental-tracker-july-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according<\/a> to Redfin.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000a3b6njood8nf8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Sandy McAlpine, a real estate agent who works in Charlotte, North Carolina, said she\u2019s heard that many would-be buyers are holding back for now, in the hope that the Federal Reserve will soon cut interest rates, making borrowing for a home more affordable.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000b3b6nttb31q6p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cEveryone thinks that the Fed rate cut is when they need to buy,\u201d McAlpine said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/gettyimages-2227060719.jpg\" alt=\"The Federal Reserve's actions don't directly impact mortgage rates. Last year, when the Fed began cutting interest rates, mortgage rates climbed higher.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1333\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000c3b6njdsgwhp9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While<strong> <\/strong>mortgage rates have been falling in anticipation of an expected rate cut in September, there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/02\/economy\/fed-rate-cuts-jobs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">no guarantee<\/a> it will come \u2014 and, when the Fed started to cut its interest rates last fall, mortgage rates actually rose.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000e3b6nqslz2r37@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While the Fed doesn\u2019t directly set mortgage rates, its actions can affect the 10-year Treasury yield, the key benchmark that influences home borrowing costs.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000d3b6npykyi0og@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Last week, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate averaged 6.58%, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/14\/business\/mortgage-rates-fall-lowest-10-months\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lowest level in 10 months<\/a>, according to Freddie Mac.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmeggpvju000f3b6nmuiz7wpv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Fairweather noted that Redfin expects mortgage rates to keep easing next year but cautioned that nothing is certain given the shaky economy.
