{"id":1154,"date":"2025-08-16T01:23:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T01:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1154\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T01:23:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T01:23:07","slug":"mo-salah-in-tears-for-diogo-jota-as-he-shares-emotional-moment-with-the-kop-liverpool-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1154\/","title":{"rendered":"Mo Salah in tears for Diogo Jota as he shares emotional moment with the Kop &#8211; Liverpool FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/mohamed-salah\/\" title=\"Mo Salah\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mo Salah<\/a> couldn\u2019t hold back the tears as Anfield sang for <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/diogo-jota\/\" title=\"Diogo Jota\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Diogo Jota<\/a> after full time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/federico-chiesa\/\" title=\"Federico Chiesa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Federico Chiesa<\/a>\u2018s decisive 88th-minute strike to put Liverpool ahead against <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/bournemouth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bournemouth<\/a>, Salah sealed the win deep into injury time.<\/p>\n<p>As he ran to the Kop, he made the shark gesture Jota would often produce when celebrating goals and, after the match, the Egyptian shared an emotional moment with supporters.<\/p>\n<p>With most of his teammates having left the pitch, Salah stayed and faced the Kop, standing and staring as the crowd sang Jota\u2019s song in unison. <\/p>\n<p>Unable to hold back the tears, Liverpool\u2019s No. 11 cried for his friend and applauded the fans before leaving and heading down the tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>The full-time scenes came at the end of an emotionally charged night which began with tributes before kick-off. <\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the game, supporters sang You\u2019ll Never Walk Alone and raised cards to reveal a mosaic reading \u2018AS 30\u2019 on the lower <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/kenny-dalglish\/\" title=\"Sir Kenny Dalglish\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sir Kenny Dalglish<\/a> Stand and \u2018DJ20\u2019 on the Kop. <\/p>\n<p>These are, of course, references to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who passed away in a car accident on July 3.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Salah producing the shark celebration, <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/hugo-ekitike\/\" title=\"Hugo Ekitike\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hugo Ekitike<\/a> and <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/cody-gakpo\/\" title=\"Cody Gakpo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cody Gakpo<\/a> also paid tribute to Jota, making a \u201920\u2019 with their fingers after scoring Liverpool\u2019s first and second goals, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Before kick-off, <a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/bournemouth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bournemouth<\/a> fans also paid their respects to Jota, holding up a banner that said, \u2018<a data-ail=\"325727\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/diogo-jota\/\" title=\"Diogo Jota\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Diogo Jota<\/a>, 20, together\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>With Jota\u2019s widow, Rute, and family in attendance, Liverpool fans also unveiled banners on the Kop.<\/p>\n<p>As one said,\u2019Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda \u2013 Anfield will always be your home.
