\u201cMortal Kombat II<\/a>\u201d hasn\u2019t yet made it to theaters, but fans can expect that \u201cMortal Kombat III\u201d is also in the works, it was announced at New York Comic Con on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Joined on stage by \u201cMortal Kombat<\/a>\u201d cast and crew Adeline Rudolph<\/a>, Karl Urban<\/a>, Martyn Ford<\/a>, Simon McQuoid<\/a> and Tati Gabrielle<\/a>, Jeremy Slater<\/a> announced the third installment and his return to the martial arts fantasy film as its screenwriter.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur friends at New Line<\/a> and Warner Bros.<\/a> are so happy and excited with this movie,\u201d Slater said. \u201cThey are so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it that they already hired me to start writing the next installment of \u2018Mortal Kombat.<\/a>\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement comes months in advance of the sequel\u2019s release, which is set for May 15. No additional details about the plot of the third film have been shared.<\/p>\n
