At the time he will be 65 years of age. <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/tata-sons-owner-retains-the-decision-to-keep-the-holding-company-private-11760263865309.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Tata Trusts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tata Trusts<\/a> did not have a comment, as per the report.<\/p>\n<p>The Tata Group&#8217;s <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/senior-care-insurance-india-senior-citizens-india-retirement-planning-india-old-age-care-11760084007624.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"retirement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">retirement<\/a> policy, traditionally executives are expected to retire at 65, but they are allowed to hold non-executive roles till 70.<\/p>\n<p>Why extension for N Chandrasekaran?<\/p>\n<p>One source told the paper that the company took \u201ccontinuity of functioning\u201d into consideration, while extending Chandrasekaran&#8217;s term beyond the traditional tenure.<\/p>\n<p>They added that if was felt that his leadership \u201cwas necessary to see through critical projects like <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/videos\/indias-mega-1-6-lakh-crore-push-in-semiconductors-as-pm-modi-hails-vikram-32-at-semicon-2025-11757095812709.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"semiconductors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">semiconductors<\/a>, batteries for electric vehicles and Air India\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Trusts resolution was sent to <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/company-results\/shapoorji-pallonji-group-reiterates-call-for-transparency-governance-through-public-listing-of-tata-sons-11760172772591.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Tata Sons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tata Sons<\/a>, which will of course have to decide when approving a third term from 2027,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n<p>What is the proposal?<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, highly placed sources said that it was <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/noel-tata-plan-for-tata-sons-tata-trusts-tata-sons-aviation-digital-semiconductors-tvs-motor-11757857782649.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Noel Tata\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Noel Tata<\/a> and Venu Srinivasan who proposed extending Chandrasekaran&#8217;s term as Chairman for another five years at a meeting on September 11.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution was unanimously approved, it added.<\/p>\n<p>N Chandrasekaran at helm, not unexpected?<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Chandrasekaran&#8217;s second five-year term was approved in February 2022. He took the helm, moving from executive role at <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/tata-consultancy-services-tcs-sudeep-kunnumal-chro-designate-milind-lakkad-it-hr-head-11741881688388.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Tata Consultancy Services\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tata Consultancy Services<\/a> (TCS). He first joined the board of Tata Sons in October 2016, and was appointed Chairman in January 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Ketan Dalal, MD of Katalyst Advisors, a consulting firm, told the paper that this decision is not unexpected given the recent internal and external challenges at various Tata companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTata is an extraordinary and respected conglomerate, but it is currently navigating a complex landscape of internal and external challenges, from the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/dgca-orders-air-india-to-reinspect-some-systems-on-boeing-787s-11760325973763.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Air India\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Air India<\/a> incident and rising geopolitical tensions to increasing market pressure around a potential Tata Sons IPO.
