Drama continued to unfold over the Rs 3,000 crore estate of businessman Sunjay Kapur as the Delhi High Court resumed the hearing of the plea by the children of actor Karishma Kapoor. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Samaira, 20, and Kiaan, 15, alleged that the will was forged as a means to disinherit the children from his first marriage.<\/p>\n
Jethmalani questioned the authenticity of the will, calling that \u201csomething was very secretive about this will\u201d. He argued that, \u201cThis \u2018will\u2019 does not involve Sunjay Kapur\u2026 and we were not supplied with any documents either.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pointing out several inconsistencies, he noted that the will even misspelled one son\u2019s name and listed the daughter\u2019s address incorrectly. \u201cThese bloopers (are) very uncharacteristic of Sunjay Kapur,\u201d he remarked. \u201cSunjay Kapur was in great health and his Indian property was secured by a tight trust. The circumstantial evidence is so completely contrary it leads to assumptions\u2026 that the contents of the will are bad. I say this based on his phone conversations with his \u2018disinherited\u2019 children,\u201d Jethmalani was quoted as saying by NDTV.<\/p>\n
Emphasising Kapur\u2019s close bond with his children, he questioned, \u201cHe had a very good relationship with his children. So how could he have written his daughter\u2019s address wrong and misspelled his son\u2019s name in multiple places?\u201d<\/p>\n
Samaira and Kiaan are Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage with Karishma Kapur. The two wed in September 2003 and divorced in 2016, when she accused him of physical and mental abuse. He remarried model Priya Sachdev a year later and had a son, Azarias, with her.<\/p>\n

Samaira and Kiaan alleged that Priya has taken full control of Sunjay\u2019s assets by forging a will after he died in the UK in June. According to the will presented by Priya, all the personal estates of Sunjay will be transferred to her.\u00a0<\/p>\n The will, dated March 21, was called an \u2018ominously uncertified document\u2019 by Jethmalani. He further argued in the court, “We have no idea what happened to the will. It was modified on March 17. It is not clear who modified it… but it was modified again on March 24.”<\/p>\n When asked about an explanation for these dates, Priya Kapur\u2019s lawyer, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, said that the changed dates in the MS Word document were a consequence of the file upload process. “You can check… all of them are the same document,” the counsel said.<\/p>\n
