\n\tToward the end of his memoir You Thought You Know,<\/a> Kevin Federline<\/a> issues a warning regarding his ex-wife Britney Spears<\/a> and their sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. \u201cNow, more than ever, they need your support,\u201d he wrote, according to an excerpt obtained by The New York Times.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ve been their buffer for years, but now it\u2019s bigger than me. It\u2019s time to sound the alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Federline doesn\u2019t specify in the excerpt any one particular concern,<\/a> he expresses intense worry in his passages about Spears. He suggests that the pop star is in need of professional help that he believes won\u2019t be provided in the aftermath of the \u201cFree Britney\u201d movement, in which her supporters advocated for an end to the conservatorship she was under from 2008 until 2021. \u201cAll those people who put so much effort into that should now put the same energy into the \u2018Save Britney\u2019 movement,\u201d he wrote per The Times. \u201cBecause this is no longer about freedom. It\u2019s about survival.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFederline had sole custody of Sean and Jayden for most of the duration of the conservatorship, during which long periods of time passed between Spears\u2019 visits with her children. In the memoir, he alleges that there was an element of fear involved when they would stay at her home. \u201cThey would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep \u2014 \u2018Oh, you\u2019re awake?\u2019 \u2014 with a knife in her hand,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThen she\u2019d turn around and pad off without explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to The New York Times, Federline and Spears \u201chaven\u2019t spoken in years,\u201d but the singer\u2019s ex upholds, \u201cI\u2019ve never, ever, once, been against Britney. I\u2019ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother. And it\u2019s hard because when I really reflect on everything that\u2019s happened \u2014 my kids do not know the woman that I married. And I\u2019ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her 2023 memoir\u00a0The Woman in Me<\/a>, Spears wrote about her complicated relationship with her two children, the court-ordered conservatorship, and the custody battle she underwent with Federline. \u201cMy freedom in exchange for naps with my children,\u201d she wrote. \u201cIt was a trade I was willing to make.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom Federline\u2019s perspective, he wrote, \u201cthe clock is ticking, and we\u2019re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don\u2019t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n
