Check it out below.<\/p>\n<p>The track, released today (October 15), marks the first new music from Barnett since her 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/courtney-barnett-new-album-milk-records-closure-3467101\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surprise instrumental album \u2018End Of The Day\u2019<\/a>, and her 2021 LP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/en_au\/reviews\/courtney-barnett-things-take-time-take-time-album-review-3091495\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Things Take Time, Take Time\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Arriving via Fiction Records, \u2018Stay In Your Lane\u2019 is propelled by a raucous guitar riff and Barnett\u2019s signature drawl. \u201cGotta get this off my chest,\u201d she sings in the chorus, \u201cThis never would\u2019ve happened if I stayed in my lane, stayed the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes alongside a creepy video from filmmaker Alex Ross Perry, which sees Barnett in the centre of some kind of surgical ward, performing while wearing a blood-stained hospital gown. Other patients lounge around, wrapped in bandages and gazing ominously into the distance.<\/p>\n<p>Check it out below.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Per a press release, the song \u201ckicks off her next musical chapter\u201d, of which further details will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p>It will follow \u2018End of the Day\u2019, which was built from 17 meditative improvisational tracks. The album was originally recorded as a score for the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/en_au\/reviews\/film-reviews\/anonymous-club-review-courtney-barnett-documentary-3184111\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anonymous Club<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a portrait of Barnett by Melbourne\/Naarm-based director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/en_au\/features\/film-interviews\/how-anonymous-club-the-intimate-new-documentary-about-courtney-barnett-was-made-3011872\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Danny Cohen<\/a>\u00a0that was three years in the making.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/courtney-barnett-things-take-time-take-time-album-review-3088378\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In a four-star review<\/a> of her last studio album, \u2018Things Take Time, Take Time\u2019, NME\u00a0wrote: \u201cThough it lacks the more immediate bite of Barnett\u2019s previous work, its softness gives it a more tender focus. True to title \u2018Things Take Time, Time Time\u2019s unshowy songs take hold more slowly, but Barnett\u2019s small snatches of happiness grip you all the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the record\u2019s release, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/big-reads\/courtney-barnett-cover-interview-2021-things-take-time-take-time-3102457\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Barnett spoke to NME<\/a> about how film had shaped her writing. \u201cMore and more, I\u2019m influenced by films more than I am music. There\u2019s such a different level of projection on film,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cI\u2019m quite a visual person, and I enjoy being able to see people\u2019s body language, actors\u2019 body language.
