{"id":124681,"date":"2025-10-15T23:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T23:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/124681\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T23:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T23:48:12","slug":"gaelcholaiste-mhuire-ag-pegged-back-by-st-josephs-tulla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/124681\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire AG pegged back by St Joseph\u2019s Tulla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was no separating them in Kilmallock, and truthfully, there shouldn\u2019t have been.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire dictated the first half, St Joseph\u2019s Tulla took charge of the second, but for the North Mon, the frustration will linger longer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They had been in front for most of the second half, only to see Matthew Corbett\u2019s free deep in injury time deny them what would have been a hard-earned opening win in Group 4 of the Dr Harty Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They had been in front since the 12th minute, clinging on until Corbett landed his fourth successive free to make it 1-14 to 0-17. But too many needless fouls kept inviting pressure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Corbett missed two before Gabh\u00e1n \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in stopped a 15-minute drought for the northsiders with a placed ball to steady them again, but they couldn\u2019t retain control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Former Clare minors Ryan Hayes and Jerry O\u2019Connor combined for the latter to level matters for the fifth time in the 57th minute, but when Josh \u00d3 Brosnach\u00e1in won a free two minutes later, Craig \u00d3 Suilleabh\u00e1in restored the AG\u2019s slender lead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4822512_4_articleinline_DSC_2424.jpeg\" alt=\"Second half battle for possession in midfield between North Mon and St Joseph's players. Picture: Larry Cummins<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They could have gone two clear, only for \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in to miss in added time \u2013 just his second wide from placed balls in an otherwise polished performance from the Glen forward. But when the Cork side conceded one more soft free, Corbett punished them to snatch a draw in the 64th minute, much to the satisfaction of Tulla\u2019s Terence Fahy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThere was nothing in it, just happy to get a result,\u201d he said. \u201cAt half-time we were well out of the game, even in injury time they went ahead, so we\u2019re very happy and proud of the lads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe [Corbett] stepped up and he hit a crucial one for us. There were a lot of frees in the game, but it was fair and well contested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The first half had begun cautiously, level at 0-3 each after 11 minutes, Liam Murphy\u2019s crisp effort for Tulla the pick of them. The AG then hit their stride, hitting seven of the next eight points to move six ahead, \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in winning the battle of wills with a lively Tulla crowd who did everything they could to put him off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Two Corbett frees narrowed the gap before \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in fired in a sideline cut that deceived goalkeeper Patrick Murphy and nestled in the net \u2013 a moment that pushed Gaelchol\u00e1iste seven clear after 25 minutes, 1-10 to 0-6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">At half-time they led by six, Tulla looking blunt, with just two scorers and only two points from play. Both sides had posted sweepers, keeping two up top and at the back, clogging the middle third.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After the restart, it was the Clare school who imposed themselves. Aodh\u00e1n O\u2019Driscoll and Cathal Leamy found rare room for scores, and Corbett kept punishing any AG indiscipline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in\u2019s free briefly steadied things again, his celebration aimed squarely at the Tulla contingent, but Corbett \u2013 calm, clinical \u2013 replied with four on the spin to drag his side level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It ended all square, though it felt like a point lost for the North Mon, as coach Se\u00e1n \u00d3g \u00d3 hAilp\u00edn reflected.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4822515_4_articleinline_DSC_2440.jpeg\" alt=\"Josh \u00d3 Brosnach\u00e1in in action for North Mon. Pic: Larry Cummins<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019d gone in at half time, I wouldn\u2019t say very comfortable, but we probably should have built on that, and we didn\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cTulla then dominated the game for a lot of the second half, and we were just relying on frees to keep us in check.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Both teams hit 10 wides, but there was quality in the sweepers \u2013 D\u00f3nal \u00d3 Scannl\u00e1in for the North Mon, Ryan Hayes for Tulla. Yet for all their first-half control, the AG\u2019s one score from play in the second half was decisive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThat doesn\u2019t surprise me, we weren\u2019t creating much from play,\u201d said \u00d3 hAilp\u00edn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAnd we were relying too much on frees.
