Sam Fender<\/a> has spoken to Elton John<\/a> about their collaboration \u2018Talk To You\u2019 and his plans for a new album.<\/p>\n

The singer-songwriter announced the new single earlier this week<\/a> and it will be released tomorrow (October 17). John plays piano on the track and it is set to be included on the deluxe edition of \u2018People Watching\u2019, Fender\u2019s third studio album, which is out on December 5.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the song being shared with the world, Fender appeared on Elton John\u2019s Rocket Hour\u00a0on Apple Music 1 to discuss working together on it.<\/p>\n

He said he wished \u2018Talk To You\u2019 had ended up on the standard edition of \u2018People Watching\u2019, but he was unable to fit it on as he had \u201cbasically a whole other album\u2019s worth of stuff\u201d by the time he had finished the writing and recording period.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when we started this one, I don\u2019t know what it was, it was like I had this one piano, I had that piano part, which is the main riff,\u201d Fender said. \u201cAnd, obviously, we were at Chiswick at the time. And I was like, \u2018Oh, I would love to get somebody better at piano than me.\u2019 I was like, I wonder who I know. Who can I call?\u201d<\/p>\n

John replied: \u201cIt was so much fun to come and play on one of your songs, because we\u2019ve been friends for a long, long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The conversation also saw Fender discuss his future plans, revealing that he has already started thinking about the follow-up to \u2018People Watching\u2019. \u201cI\u2019m going to make another album, I think,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve got a load of other songs, so I want to make another record.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right. Do it,\u201d John replied. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing wrong with going straight in and doing another record. That\u2019s what we used to do all the time.\u00a0When one record was finished, the other one was coming out. That\u2019s the way to do it. If you\u2019ve got a lot of songs, just get them down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, yeah. They just end up sitting on a computer and then you\u2019ll never release them,\u201d Fender added. \u201cDo you know what I mean? Yeah, I\u2019m going to get straight back and then get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0gave \u2018People Watching\u2019\u00a0a four-star review upon its release in February<\/a>, writing, \u201cReflective, analytical and vulnerable, \u2018People Watching\u2019 does exactly what the title may suggest: takes stock of the characters, friends and loved ones who have made Fender the person he is today. He approaches each track with sensitivity as he looks back on his life so far \u2013 perhaps even with an inkling of guilt \u2013 and contemplates who he may be next.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018People Watching\u2019, which\u00a0earned the biggest opening week in the UK for a British act <\/a>since Harry Styles<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0\u2018Harry House\u2019<\/a>\u00a0in 2021, is\u00a0up for this year\u2019s Mercury Prize<\/a>. Fender will find out if the album wins\u00a0later today (October 16).<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll be performing at the ceremony, which is taking place in his hometown of Newcastle. He\u2019s up against artists including\u00a0CMAT<\/a>,\u00a0Fontaines D.C.<\/a>,\u00a0Pa Salieu<\/a>, PinkPantheress<\/a>, Pulp <\/a>and\u00a0Wolf Alice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Next month, Fender is heading to Australia to\u00a0continue his \u2018People Watching\u2019 tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n
